Canoe Adventures
A summary
Each day we paddle by giant canoe to our woodland basecamp for activities, free-play, fun, friendship and adventure, or we journey out to explore the Dart estuary.
Learn new skills and eat great food that we have cooked up together over the fire. Activities may include games, den-building, nature art and craft, whittling, fire-lighting, cooking, paddling or swimming, foraging and fishing. Take some time out to chill out in a hammock or on the shore.
Our fun and friendly staff will be there to help you have the best time.
We gather at The Quay, Stoke Gabriel, and our basecamp is across the water near Cornworthy.
Activities
We plan activities according to tides the weather and the group dynamic. We try and vary things and offer opportunities to progress skills for those attending more than one day, whilst also offering consistency and familiarity for those who need that. River School has a child-led approach and there will be time for children to explore, play and hang out as they choose.

Paid Child session

£0HAF eligibility - families registered for Free School Meals within Devon Authority (not Torbay).
Sibling session
£40For anyone booking Paid Child tickets for siblings or more than one day at the same time. Age 8-14.
1:1 support non-HAF
£130Special ticket to provide 1:1 support where HAF funding is not available. Prior arrangemnt only.

When you arrive
Please check the times on your booking ticket.
- HAF-funded days (which may include some paid-for places) we meet at 1030.
- Pay-for-only days we meet at 1000.
We will gather on the quay, check we have everything we will need for our day's adventure, learn how to use our paddle, board our canoes and go!
- HAF-funded days (which may include some paid-for places) return at 1530.
- Pay-for-only days return at 1600.
Please drop and collect your children promptly. Please allow us some flexibility on collection time. We will always do our best to be back on time but there maybe conditions on the river which delay our return.
If you are unable to attend on the day or you are running more than 10 minutes late, please let us know ASAP via text or call 07706 343744.
What will we eat?
HAF-funded days (which may include some paid-for places) we will cook up a healthy feast together over the open camp fire that we made ourselves. This will likely be a stew of some kind with rice or pasta. We'll maybe try a few new things and find out what your favourites are. We will learn a few sweet treats to cook on the fire as well.
Pay-for-only days please bring a packed lunch and some healthy snacks. We will cook something on the fire but it is not intended to be a substantial meal.
Sweets, sugary snacks and litter are not necessary on Riverschool. Please do not bring.

We are usually oversubscribed so please let us know if you can't make it as someone else may want your place.
My experience is an educational activity, and the ‘14-day cooling period’ under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 therefore applies. After the 14 day period my standard policy will apply.
