A summary
Our one day programme will up skill and empower students to share – with their teachers and peers - post event. This will positively impact your critical, student (stakeholder) engagement in curriculum design and delivery. We gently encourage teaching and learning, and support staff to identify and nominate students, based on who you think the agenda below would best suit: 8.40am Arrival at Stantonbury Theatre 9.00am Icebreakers & opening thoughts on What does Queerness and Utopia mean to you? 9.30am Storytelling: The young people will discover LGBTQ+ experiences and definitions of Queer through multi-media. Then, in inter-school groups, they will with training write and deliver a new story at the microphone, one that is either true from an open participant, or collectively devised. 11.00am Break & chat over Tea* 11.20am Improvisation: A class exploring Queerness' Multi through short-form improv games. 12.50pm Lunch – provided in Bar Bar Black Sheep Wellbeing Café on site. 1.30pm Comedy Writing: The young people will learn how to write Queer-focused sketch scripts. 3.15pm Reflections & Questions 3.30pm Departures *Light refreshments provided throughout day The day will be facilitated by Tom Scudamore, an experienced Queer theatre-maker, currently working with students and learners, within these themes, and multi-award winning, social enterprise, Black Sheep Collective CIC. The day will be something beyond what students in Milton Keynes have ever been able to access previously. This really is a rare opportunity to inform and empower your students, and our decade long track record demonstrates the Social Value we generate in projects of this nature. For Queertopia 2024, we are proud to be able to offer this opportunity to your students and school- completely free of charge! Black Sheep Collective provides theatre and performance workshops for children, young people and adults. The sessions are affordable, inclusive and remove the pressure of stage school provision. Black Sheep Collective nurtures creative expression and supports participants in developing their skills and confidence in authentic collaborative opportunities. The groups will work towards termly sharing's and annual performances.
