What we'll do
Join us for a week long adventure working with a team of amazing artists! You'll spend the week creating, making and performing an original piece of theatre in a fun and supportive environment. You will work with our Arts & Theatre Learning Leader Poppy Rowley, Musician and Creator Bev Lee Harling, and Stage and Set Designer Nicola Jones to create your own stage performance in the Barn Theatre. Over five days you'll create, design, rehearse and then perform a self-devised play inspired by the elements of Earth, Fire, Water and Air. As a group you might: - Create your own characters and help shape the story - Make sets, props, costumes and puppets - Explore sound and music, creating soundscapes and an original song together - Develop acting and storytelling skills - Work collaboratively - Rehearse and perform on stage at the Barn Theatre The week is designed to encourage imagination, confidence and teamwork, with young people involved in every stage of the creative process. No previous theatre experience is required – just curiosity, creativity and a willingness to play. We want every child and young person to have a positive experience with us. This activity is designed for participants who are comfortable taking part with a smaller level of support, as we’re unable to provide dedicated 1:1 support. If your child has additional learning or support needs, please get in touch before booking so we can discuss how we may be able to support them. Ages: 8–11 years Dates: Monday 24–Friday 28 August 2026 Final Performance: Friday 28 August at the Barn Theatre to friends and family For more information please call 01424 559020 or email office@thebrightfoundation.org.uk

About your mentors
The Bright Foundation
Inspiring young minds through the arts
The Bright Foundation is an arts education charity founded by Academy Award winning costume designer John Bright. They offer a programme of life enhancing creative learning to children and young people, particularly those experiencing disadvantage. The programme includes school visits, summer schools, performance projects, cross-curricular learning, wellbeing retreats, volunteering, family festivals, skills training, and career support. The Barn Theatre and Museum is set in 24 acres in a rural location just outside Hastings. The Barn Theatre is a 50 seat children’s theatre and workshop studio that presents inspirational puppet shows and theatre productions to children, young people and their families. The adjoining museum showcases John Bright’s personal collection of period toys, puppets and theatre sets dating from the 18th century to the present day. The Benbow Arts Space in St Leonards-on-Sea offers a programme to support young people between the ages of 11-21 to pursue their training and career ambitions, inspired by John Bright’s Early Cinema Exhibition.

Cancellation Policy
Our cancellation policy comes into effect two weeks before the start date of the project. Please let us know at the earliest opportunity if your child is no longer able to come. As places are limited, we are not in a position to refund if your child’s participation is cancelled any closer to this date, unless we can fill the space.

My experience consists of a leisure activity, on a specific date(s), and therefore the 14-day ‘cooling off period’ under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 does not apply.
