Orchestra Of Objects Making Music Workshop (British Airways i360)

Orchestra Of Objects

A summary
In association with the Brighton Science Festival! Come and meet the 'Pump-a-phone', 'Grass hopper', and 'Twisty-Bat' among other creations in this fun music workshop. I build tuned giant percussion instruments and sound sculptures and and invite you to join me in creating an experimental musical ensemble! The instruments are made from recycled industrial and domestic parts. They are big, colourful, and super enjoyable to play. Designed for multiple players the group is shown fun theatrical ways to conduct and control the ensemble using physical gestures and simple hand signals to control the tempo and dynamics of the sound. We explore different methods for creating fun rhythms as a large group and will learn a cool tune to play together based on Samba and African music.

Orchestra Of Objects
I am a passionate musician, sculptor, builder and teacher! I love helping people have fun and unleash their creativity whilst learning. I have worked with many community groups and schools over the years to design unique interactive and fun sound sculptures. Having over thirty permanent musical sculpture installations in public parks and school play areas across the UK, I have found a variety of ways to make robust and good sounding harmonic instruments and love teaching fun and accessible ways of playing music in large groups.
