What we'll do
Looking for an inspiring alternative to traditional holiday clubs? The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum Holiday Club offers a creative, engaging full-day experience for children aged 7–11, combining hands-on arts and crafts with cultural exploration in a safe, welcoming environment. Each holiday club is inspired by our current exhibitions, giving children the opportunity to explore art, history, and storytelling in meaningful and age-appropriate ways. This Easter, activities are based on Stories That Made Us, our living history exhibition, encouraging children to explore ideas of Roots, Resilience, and Representation through creative making. Across the day, children will take part in artist-led workshops with professional creatives. Working with artist Julia Snowdon, they will collaborate on building a bold 1980s-inspired sculpture, learning how art can reflect personal and shared histories. Alongside storyteller Amy Wilde, children will create shadow puppets and develop stories, discovering how narratives help us understand heritage, identity, and the world around us. These immersive creative sessions support children’s artistic development while building confidence, curiosity, and collaboration skills—all within the inspiring surroundings of the gallery. Activities are carefully planned to be engaging, inclusive, and suitable for a range of abilities, making this an ideal option for children who enjoy creative, thoughtful experiences. The day includes a hot lunch, snacks, and refreshments, as well as regular movement breaks, supervised time exploring the museum, and relaxed craft activities to help children unwind. Our holiday club provides a balanced, enriching day that parents can feel confident about—and one children will be excited to attend.

Culture Coventry
Discover Coventry's museums in creative ways.
Culture Coventry Trust is home to three of Coventry's museums: Coventry Transport Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of British road transport, including the two fastest cars in the world. The award-winning Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, which celebrates the city’s culture, history and arts. The Lunt Roman Fort, a fully excavated and partially reconstructed turf and timber fort, including the only gyrus in the Roman Empire. Between them, these attractions proudly tell stories of Coventry’s unique history to over 800,000 visitors per year from around the world. CV Life is ever evolving and continuously looking for new ways to encourage people to be active and engaged in ways that suit them, their interests and needs.
When you arrive
When you arrive at the Herbert Art Gallery, please make your way to the main reception area, coming through the entrance on Bayley Lane. You will see a member of our staff, wearing a purple or grey CV Life uniform. This person works in the ticket and shop area of the museum. Let them know that you are here to attend the HAF programme and they will direct you to our Learning and Engagement Team, who will check you against the register and lead you to the workshop area. Parent's are not required to stay, but they are welcome should the young person need their support. Snacks and drinks are available during the day, but we do recommend bringing your own bottle of water with you too. Lunch will be served in the museum café, where you can enjoy the social environment of the museum. When you arrive in the morning, you will have a menu with three hot meal options to choose from. For any young people arriving independently, we request that parents/carers alert us to this in advance, and also make us aware if your child is travelling home independently at the end of the day.
Learning aims
Aim 1
Art workshops with young people can help develop creativity, communication, and critical thinking skills. They can also help young people to express themselves, explore their identity, and develop resilience.
Aim 3
Arts-based activities can help young people feel a sense of community belonging.
Aim 2
Explore the work of artists and craftspeople, and gain insights into the professional arts world.
Aim 4
Young people will increase their self-esteem and feelings of achievement.
Experience level
We offer a relaxed and nurturing environment, where older children can spend time exploring their interests in art and develop their art skills through practical activities. You will have the opportunity to explore exhibitions in the museum, guided by our Learning and Engagement team. Young people will have opportunities to work and learn directly with practicing artists. You will meet with other young people who share similar interests, and hopefully make friends along the way. For anyone who prefers to work independently, we will respect this and ensure you have space to enjoy your time with us in your own way. Each day offers something new to learn and experience, whilst also allowing young artists to revisit their favourite art skills during the open studio activities in the afternoon. We welcome repeat visitors, so please feel free to book more than one day with us.
