What we'll do
We are sounding out the possibility of a new group for those who want a regular Forest School meet-up at Wilderness Wood. This session is for families where adults stay too. We’ll gather at our camp in the woods, ready for a morning of play, bushcraft, fire lighting and exploration. Forming friendships, building resilience and breathing in all that Wilderness Wood has to offer, what ever the weather! Our Level 3 Forest School Leaders will grow to know and understand your child, and their individual needs, interests and learning styles. Working together we will foster a sense of community, teamwork, and cooperation. Progression is gentle, we will work with the rhythm of the changing seasons and find connection and meaning amongst the trees. .

About your mentors
Call of the Woods
Forest School for Home Educated Children!
I’ve worked as a Forest School Leader since 2015 fitting my practice around a busy home life. For the past 3 years I’ve concentrated my efforts on developing sessions for Home Educated families as part of Little Forest School, Rooted Path Forest School and now under my own umbrella Call of the Woods. As well as running our monthly Grow up Wild sessions at Wilderness Wood with Karen, I work as a young people’s mentor at Hastings based Project Rewild.

What to bring
Winter - Weather-appropriate clothing including a coat and waterproof trousers, and spare layers if cold! Lined wellies or hiking boots are best. . Summer - Trainers are a good alternative to boots and don't forget to pack your sun cream and a sun hat too. All times of year - A change of clothes is always a good idea in case of wet play! Don't forget - A packed lunch, a hot or cold drink and some snacks.
Learning aims
Aim 1
Under our watchful eye, children will learn bush-craft skills such as fire lighting and making kindling, shelter building, rope work, foraging and cookery.
Aim 3
Children have the time to play, to let their imaginations unfold,, making sense of the world around them at their own pace whilst enhancing physical, emotional, and cognitive growth.
Aim 2
Our groups nurture a strong sense of community, encourage problem solving and resilience and enable children to hone their social skills.
Aim 4
We foster a deeper understanding of the natural world, encouraging care and stewardship. We also observe and celebrate seasonal transitions marked by the four fire festivals.
What to expect!
To make this group accessible for everyone we will be trialling a shorter 2 hour session 10am - 12noon with the option to stay in the woods for lunch afterwards! There will be children of mixed ages attending, some with younger siblings too. We will aim to adapt activities accordingly. Parents and carers stay to support their children.
