A summary
Our NPLQ Course is a fantastic opportunity for 16 year-olds to gain valuable lifesaving skills in a supportive and encouraging environment while working towards an industry-recognised qualification. Whether participants are interested in developing confidence around the pool, learning vital rescue techniques, or taking their first step towards employment in the leisure industry, this programme is designed to help them achieve their goals. Throughout the course, participants will complete structured training sessions covering essential lifeguarding skills including water rescues, CPR, first aid, pool safety, and emergency response techniques. Our qualified instructors provide expert guidance and support throughout, helping every participant build the knowledge and confidence needed to succeed. Upon successful completion, participants will achieve the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) — a nationally recognised certification that can be used to gain paid employment within the leisure industry. This programme offers a valuable opportunity to develop lifelong skills, increase confidence, and take an important step towards future career opportunities.

Turning the Tide on Inactivity
Active Leicester encompasses all sports in the city. We have seven leisure centres with swimming pools and gyms; one climbing wall; one athletics track; one golf facility and several dedicated football pitches.
Useful information
Course dates are 15th - 20th August. Prior to the course starting, participants will be required to attend an assessment session at the beginning of the summer holidays to ensure they meet the required swimming standards and are ready to undertake the qualification. To be eligible for the course, participants must be able to: Jump or dive into deep water Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds Swim 100 metres continuously on both front and back in deep water Tread water for 30 seconds Surface dive to the floor of the pool Climb out of the pool unaided without using steps or a ladder (where pool design permits) This assessment helps ensure all participants are prepared for the demands of the course and able to progress safely and confidently throughout the programme. As part of the HAF offer, children will also receive a food voucher to support healthy eating during the programme.
