What we'll do
Weekly Group! Building on the success of our monthly group we are growing our Forest School community for home educators with sessions running weekly from September. We will head into the wild to make camp ready for a day of nature connection, bushcraft, campfire skills, play and exploration. Forming friendships, building resilience and breathing in all that Wilderness Wood has to offer, what ever the weather! Experienced Level 3 Forest School Leaders Michelle and Karen, (along with our newly qualified assistant Rozita), will look to tailor sessions to each individual child’s needs, interests and learning styles whilst fostering a sense of community, teamwork, and cooperation. A wholesome mid-week reset for your wild ones! Please note we will need a minimum of x8 children to enable us to run this group so please pass the word around!

About your mentor
Call of the Woods
Forest School for Home Educated Children!
With a degree in Textiles and Business Studies and having built a successful design business with my partner from the ground up, when my children were little I moved away from the desk and began to search for a meaningful role which would take me outdoors. Having completed my training at The Mohair Centre, I’ve worked as a Forest School Leader since 2015 fitting my practice around an increasingly busy home life! Since 2022 I’ve concentrated my efforts on developing sessions for Home Educated families in and around Sussex. As well as running our monthly Grow up Wild group at Wilderness Wood with Karen, I work as a young people’s mentor at Hastings based Project Rewild. Level 3 Certificate in Forest School Leadership Enhanced DBS Checked Emergency First Aid at Work Forest School First Aid & Paediatric First Aid TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children and Young People's Mental Health
What to bring
Weather-appropriate clothing including a coat and waterproof trousers, and spare layers if cold! Wear lined wellies or hiking boots. Trainers are okay in the summer months. A change of clothes is always a good idea too. A packed lunch, a hot or cold drink and some snacks.
Learning aims
Aim 1
Under our watchful eye, children will learn bush-craft skills such as fire lighting and making kindling, shelter building, rope work, foraging and cookery.
Aim 3
Children have the time to play, to let their imaginations unfold,, making sense of the world around them at their own pace whilst enhancing physical, emotional, and cognitive growth.
Aim 2
Our groups nurture a strong sense of community, encourage problem solving and resilience and enable children to hone their social skills.
Aim 4
We foster a deeper understanding of the natural world, encouraging care and stewardship. We also observe and celebrate seasonal transitions marked by the four fire festivals.
