A summary
Film Club has been awarded grant funding from Milton Keynes City Council to deliver sessions for the Holiday Activities and Food Programme, for children in receipt of benefit-related Free School Meals (FSM), during the Winter Break. After the success of our previous HAF programmes in Milton Keynes, Northampton and Aylesbury, we are running for a third Winter! Our events blend creative, physical, and social activities to ensure every child feels engaged, supported, and inspired. Across the programme, children will collaborate to storyboard, script, and produce 2-3 short films, exploring a range of genres and ideas. Each session will focus on a different aspect of filmmaking, from camera work and directing to acting, costume design, prop-making, and makeup. Using professional tools including a Canon R50 camera, gimbal, clapperboard, and green screen, participants gain real hands-on experience in every stage of the process. To support wellbeing and movement, sessions begin with drama-based games that build confidence, spark creativity, and get everyone moving. Nutritious hot meals and fruit-based snacks are also provided, with clear messaging around healthy eating. Our sessions are inclusive and child-centred, offering a calm, nurturing space with quiet crafting and games available for children who need time out. With years of experience running after-school clubs, in-school activities, and holiday programmes—including HAF and Short Breaks for Milton Keynes City Council, Northamptonshire Council and Buckinghamshire Council, we have a proven track record of engaging children in creative film projects across various settings. Past projects have included original stories as well as recreations of favourites like Minecraft, Ghostbusters, Britain’s Got Talent, Jumanji, and Harry Potter. This programme builds not only practical filmmaking skills, but also confidence, literacy, teamwork, and creativity—offering a truly enriching experience for every child. Please ensure your child is available to take part in the full activity. All participants will receive a downloadable copy of the film(s) they helped to create. Sessions will take place at Derwent Drive Youth Centre, Bletchley, MK3 7BE

What we'll do
Winter HAF Film Club – “Celebrity Bake Off!” Get ready for a deliciously fun winter at our Film Club! We’re running six exciting sessions inspired by Celebrity Bake Off. Each child will pick their favourite celeb to become (one might even play the film’s cheeky “bad guy”!) and take part in tasty baking challenges throughout the week. We’ll cook up all sorts of yummy treats – and the best part? You can take them home to share! Lunch, snacks, and a gift are included for every child, thanks to donations to our Film Club. Just remember – please don’t wear green (it’s a movie magic thing!) and be ready to get a bit messy, so save your best clothes for another day. Expect lots of teamwork, creativity, problem-solving, and fun along the way!
