What we'll do
NEW for Summer 2025! Make My Movie Designed with teens in mind - this exciting new course offers students the chance to become Young Film Makers. They’ll learn from our professional practitioners how to make their own short film, from page to screen on a ‘shoestring budget’! 4 DAYS will cover idea generation- writing - acting- filming- crewing + editing. (Preproduction and post production). DON’T MISS! The short course culminates in a FREE Rough-Cut Screening of the week’s films, for an invited audience of family and friends. All parents, carers and families are welcome to come and watch our screening on the last day in our fabulous Make My Movie Date: MONDAY 18th- THURSDAY 21st August 2025 Times: 9.30am to 5pm. Day includes: Lunch (provided free for HAF participants) Ages 14-16 As well as free HAF places we also accept Self Pay students. HAF children will receive a free lunch. Self-pay children can book lunch for £5.00. A few T&Cs from Brighton & Hove City Council: • Eligibility criteria – Brighton & Hove HAF-funded places are for children and young people in reception to year 11 who receive benefits-related free school meals. • Limits on bookings – Over the Summer holidays, Eequ will permit each eligible participant to be booked on to 16 HAF places across all providers in the city. If a session is not attended, HAF places cannot be added back onto an individual’s allocation, regardless of reason. It is therefore important that sessions are cancelled before the activity starts, and ideally giving a minimum of a few days’ notice where possible to allow other children to benefit. Bookings can be managed by the Booker by logging into Eequ and reviewing their Schedule.

Learning aims
Aim 1
Story scripting and ideas generation. Our strong focus on young people's ideas being articulated and communicated through film helps students to develop a clear, compelling voice and good listening skills. Immensely useful stuff, whether they’re expressing themselves on screen or in life.
Aim 3
Film production and crew. Being involved in every aspect of film making, thrusts the student into an immersive approach to preproduction, shooting and post production. It promotes ownership, resilience and physical endurance. As well as improving their cooperation, students learn to feel good about their contribution to the group, expand their knowledge of job roles in the industry and hold their own in a social and creative space.
Aim 2
Drama and screen performance. We stimulate creativity through structured dialogue, characterisation, director's briefs, and acting out original scripts as an ensemble. This practice goes beyond screen skills, helping young people to articulate their ideas, socialise and overcome shyness in groups.
Aim 4
Screening / presenting their work. One of the greatest life skills we can teach our kids is to communicate confidently. This is why working in the creative space is such a valuable tool in preparing them to be all they can be in the world.
