About your mentor

Alasdair Macrae

Alasdair Macrae

I have been playing the fiddle since I was a wee boy. I grew up playing in my mum's ceilidh-dance band which I was allowed to join when I was twelve. Since then I have played in sessions, bands, and festivals around the world both professionally and for fun. I work mainly as a musical director in the theatre, and as such have taught many 'enthusiastic' actors how to play a variety of instruments. I have run many fiddle workshops and taught many tunes to many people.
