What we'll do
At **Houghton’s Sports Centre** (also known as Houghton Sports & Wellness Centre in Houghton-le-Spring, Sunderland), we provide a vibrant, welcoming community hub dedicated to promoting health, fitness, and fun for people of all ages and abilities. Our wide range of facilities and activities ensures there's something exciting for everyone, whether you're looking to stay active, socialise, or simply enjoy some leisure time. Our ultra-modern gym is equipped with the latest cardio machines, free weights, resistance equipment, and functional training areas, supported by our expert team of personal trainers who are always on hand to help you reach your personal goals through tailored sessions and advice. In our versatile sports hall, we host a fantastic selection of indoor sports and classes, including basketball, badminton, table tennis, gymnastics, martial arts, and more, creating opportunities for competitive play, skill-building, and group enjoyment. Outdoors, our all-weather 3G artificial football pitch is a highlight, perfect for five-a-side or seven-a-side matches, training sessions, friendly kickabouts, or even rugby and athletics activities year-round, regardless of the weather. We also feature an indoor bowls area for relaxed, social sessions, a dedicated dance studio that hosts a packed timetable of group fitness classes such as Zumba, Pilates, cycling, circuit training, Legs Bums & Tums, and dance fitness, plus a skate park (both indoor and outdoor elements) where skaters can practice tricks and enjoy the ramps. We are especially proud of our commitment to making activities accessible, particularly during school holidays. In half terms and other school breaks, we regularly offer **free football sessions** and **free roller disco events**, giving young people a fantastic, no-cost opportunity to get active, make friends, burn energy, and have loads of fun in a safe, supervised environment. These popular sessions fill up quickly as families take advantage of the chance to enjoy high-energy football games or glide around to music in our roller disco setup—perfect for keeping kids entertained and moving during the holidays. Beyond sports, our centre doubles as a community venue, with meeting rooms available for hire, event spaces suitable for celebrations, live events, corporate functions, or even wedding receptions (complete with a licensed bar in some configurations). Whether you're dropping in for a casual workout, joining a class, booking a pitch, or attending one of our free holiday sessions, Houghton’s Sports Centre is all about building healthier, happier communities through inclusive, high-quality facilities and engaging activities that bring people together.
