What we'll do
We will teach you to care for ponies. Each morning we will clean stables, poo pick the paddocks and then move on to grooming the ponies, they may be occassions when we can ride if you wish but that won't be possible every day. We will look at lots of elements of horse care and look at what a healthy diet looks like for both horses and humans. You don't need to have even touched a horse before! We will learn about the welfare of horses and how we meet their needs. We will also learn about the jobs people do with horses and think about how you might have a career working outdoors in the future.

About your mentor
Newmarket Pony Academy
Enjoy, Aspire, Achieve
The Newmarket Pony Academy, at the British Racing School, is a community project using horses and ponies to positively impact the mental health and wellbeing for the children in Newmarket. Newmarket, despite being the headquarters of racing, does not offer affordable access to children to learn, ride or look after these animals. These children see horses around Newmarket town and surrounding areas every day and the Newmarket Pony Academy gives them that chance.
Timetable
09.30 to 2.30pm each day.
Learning aim
Aim 1
Be able to think about the needs of an animal and how to look after them
Transport & Priority
We want to make this programme as accessible as possible to those who need it most. To facilitate this we will pick up and drop off with our minibus from The Racing Centre on Fred Archer way in Newmarket each day, please message us after your place is confirmed to let us know that you wish to avail of it. We are usually oversubscribed therefore will give priority to children who are local to the NPA and those who live further than 7 miles from CB8 7NU may not be offered a place.
