This special day is designed for young people new or experienced, we're offering a unique opportunity to learn the ropes of fishing in a safe, supportive, and picturesque environment. Under the guidance of experienced and licensed angling coaches, you'll gain hands-on experience with all the essentials of fishing. We'll cover everything from setting up your rod and tackle to baiting your hook, casting techniques, and most importantly, how to safely and responsibly handle any fish you might catch before returning them to the water. This day is not just about catching fish; it's about connecting with nature, learning patience, developing focus, and understanding aquatic ecosystems. You'll discover the peaceful enjoyment that comes from being by the water's edge, observing wildlife, and mastering a new skill. All necessary equipment, including rods, reels, and bait, will be provided, so you just need to bring your enthusiasm! What to expect: - Introduction to Angling: Learn the basics of fishing from experienced coaches - Equipment & Techniques: Understand how to use rods, reels, and bait effectively - Safety & Responsibility: Learn about responsible angling practices, fish welfare, and waterside safety. - Patience & Focus: Develop valuable life skills while enjoying the peaceful outdoors. - Connect with Nature: Spend time by the water, observing local wildlife and enjoying the fresh air. - Free Nutritious Lunch: A healthy and delicious lunch will be provided for all participants. Eligibility Criteria
Godalming Youth Service is part of Godalming Town Council. Because of this, only residents of Godalming's neighbourhoods (eg: Farncombe, Aaron's Hill, Godalming Central, Ockford Ridge, Busbridge) will be allocated places. For young people wanting to access our activities for the first time, we will ask that they attend a Broadwater Youth Centre based day BEFORE accepting any bookings for a youth day out. Further details of Town Council's Parish boundaries are available here: https://godalming-tc.gov.uk/town-council-overview/ We also welcome young people from the following surrounding areas outside our Parish boundaries: Witley, Milford, Compton.
