What we'll do
This is ideal for everyone who enjoys preparing food and of course... eating it! Learn about seasonal cooking with professional cook Lindy Wildsmith. Lindy has got endless experience in cooking with people young and old. But before we go to the kitchen - let's explore what we grow in the garden with Kris from the Community Garden. We start the morning in the garden and find out what is growing, what is fruiting and what is ripe and ready to pick. How many plants do you recognise? Did you know that cucumbers grow on vines? Tomatoes are ripe when they are red, but did you know you can eat green and yellow tomatoes too? We will be making lunch with the season’s pickings. Creamy carrot hummus to start, and to go with it, you will make your very own flat breads. Then we will cook penne primavera, a rich pasta dish with a selection of summer vegetables with beans and peas to pod, tomatoes and fresh herbs to chop, all mixed up with gloopy mascarpone cheese. Then we will get busy smashing meringues to make some Eton mess. Lunch menu may vary according to what produce is available.

The Community Garden supports users with a range of physical and mental health challenges. It also is a place for families and children. It hosts school visits throughout the year, engaging children on how their food is grown, conservation, and on the benefits of healthy eating.
From Field to Fork
The Community Garden is a peaceful green space in the middle of town. Children can explore the garden, see what grows and how to harvest, have a run around on the meadow and find our enormous living willow dragon. The kitchen is well equipped. No need to bring anything.
