A summary
We are excited to deliver an engaging Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) filmmaking programme, funded by West Northamptonshire Council, designed to positively engage children and young people across Northampton during the Spring Break. Following the success of our previous HAF programmes in Northampton, Milton Keynes and Aylesbury, Film Club is proud to run another inspiring and inclusive creative experience. The programme provides a safe, supportive and imaginative space where children can explore storytelling, build confidence and develop new skills through hands-on filmmaking activities. Throughout the sessions, participants will gain practical experience both in front of and behind the camera, including filming, directing, acting, editing, prop-making, costume design, makeup and using green screen technology, all while working with professional equipment. Sessions are designed to be collaborative, with children working in small groups to share ideas, plan scenes and create their films. This approach helps develop communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills while supporting social development and emotional wellbeing. To support wellbeing and physical activity, each session begins with fun, drama-based games that build confidence, spark creativity and get children moving. A calm, nurturing environment is also provided, with quiet crafts and games available for children who may need time out. Each day, children will receive a healthy hot meal along with fruit-based snacks, and families will be offered signposting and information about local support services. Sessions take place at Southfields Community Centre and are structured across two days, with Day 1 focusing on planning the film, creating props and preparing scenes, and Day 2 focusing on filming and bringing ideas to life. We strongly recommend children attend both days to gain the full filmmaking experience, however they are welcome to attend individual days and will still benefit from taking part. With years of experience delivering after-school clubs, in-school workshops, holiday programmes, HAF projects and Short Breaks across multiple councils, we have a strong track record of engaging children in creative film projects. This programme is designed to develop not only filmmaking knowledge but also confidence, creativity, literacy and teamwork skills in a fun and supportive environment. All participants will receive a downloadable copy of the film or films they helped to create, and parents and carers are asked to ensure children are able to take part in the full activity wherever possible.

MK Film Club
Energetic, fun and interactive filmmaking!

She studied at The University of Northampton, gaining a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours in Media, Popular Culture and Drama, additionally has a Level 3 in Education and Training, and has been delivering filmmaking sessions across Milton Keynes and surrounding areas for over 10 years. Kara holds a professional diploma in Musical Theatre after training at Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama and currently works as a one-to-one singing tutor at Rhythm Room Music School. Kara continues to support session delivery across both provisions. Sessions are delivered by Joanna, with support from Kara and our wider experienced staff team. Our team includes Teaching Assistants working within mainstream schools, support staff from specialist SEN schools, a qualified childminder, and school SEN administrative staff. All staff hold, as a minimum, Food Hygiene, Safeguarding and First Aid training. We hold full business insurance and all staff are DBS checked.
HAF Spring 2026
Spring HAF Film Club – Filmmaking Fun for SEND Children Get ready for a creative two-day spring adventure at our Film Club! This programme is designed especially for SEN children and gives participants the chance to make their very own short film inspired by one of five imaginative themes: The Mystery, The Portal, The News Report, The Challenge, and The World Has Changed. On Day 1, children will work on scriptwriting, creating characters, and making props to bring their stories to life. Day 2 is all about filming, putting planning, teamwork, and creativity into action using professional equipment. Sessions are hands-on, inclusive, and supportive, helping children build confidence, teamwork, problem-solving, and self-expression, with quiet crafts and games available for those who need a calmer space. Healthy hot meals and snacks are provided each day, and families will receive helpful information about local support services. We strongly recommend attending both days for the full experience, (please be mindful they will only appear in the film if they attend on day 2, however they can still be part of the film creation by attending day 1 only) and every child will receive a downloadable copy of the film they helped create to enjoy at home.
