What we'll do
Join us for an inclusive science day mixing outdoor movement with indoor experiments. Young people will explore how their bodies use energy, discover invisible forces, and enjoy a gentle, hands-on science show designed to build confidence and curiosity. 11-12:00pm : We will start the day with an outdoor science activity in the park, exploring the science of our muscles and our body. Through gentle movement, games, and short challenges, young people will discover how their muscles work, how their heart and breathing change when we move, and why nutrition, hydration, and rest are important for our bodies. This activity is movement-based, non-competitive, and adapted so everyone can take part at their own pace. 12:00-13:00 Lunch with games 13:00-14:30 We will then move indoors for a mini science show led by Emilia Angelillo our scientist in residence for the day (discover her on instagram: @emilia.science)! Using fun and engaging demonstrations such as the Airzooka and simple science “magic” tricks, young people will explore invisible forces like air and energy, and learn how science explains things that can sometimes look like magic. After the show, young people will take part in a hands-on science activity, where they will: - Explore static electricity by making small objects move or lift using electrical charge, or - Create a simple potato battery, using a potato, wires, and nails to generate energy and light an LED 14:30-16:00: Outdoor fun or indoor games Throughout the day, activities will be sensory-aware, inclusive, and SEND-friendly, with clear explanations, movement breaks, and support from trained staff. The focus will be on curiosity, enjoyment, and confidence rather than getting things “right”.

Marine Bernier-Harrington
Co-Founder & Director
Hello, my name is Marine and I am a founder member of The Neurodiversity Family Hub. I am dyslexic and have neurodiverse children. My journey in the realm of neurodiversity began 15 years ago when one of my children, just 2 years old at the time, exhibited distinctive traits that set them apart from neurotypical individuals. Through a relentless seven-year battle within the educational and medical systems, my child received a comprehensive diagnosis, encompassing Autism, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Dyslexia, and a severe language disorder. Fuelled by my experience, I embarked on an educational quest, immersing myself in the intricate worlds of Autism and Neurodiversity. My initial educational background includes a Master's Degree in Direct Marketing, and I worked in that field for years until I transitioned to the charity sector. My journey within the field of neurodiversity inspired me to expand my skill set by becoming a certified Transformational Life Coach, specializing in the Person-Centered (Rogerian) approach to accompany Parents of Neurodiverse Children and their children. And I am passionate about making sure Young Neurodiverse people and their families live happy lives in a caring community

FAQ
Do children need any science knowledge or experience? No. The activities are designed for beginners and focus on curiosity, participation, and enjoyment rather than prior knowledge. Is the science activity safe? Yes. All experiments are age-appropriate, supervised, and risk-assessed. No materials will be ingested. What if my child is not interested in the show or experiment? That’s absolutely fine. We will have alternative activities available, and children can take a break or join something else at their own pace. What if my child needs to leave the room to regulate themselves? That’s absolutely fine. Young people are welcome to take breaks when needed, with support from staff or their carer if attending with one. What to bring: Weather-appropriate outdoor clothing, a packed lunch, and a water bottle. What happens if it rains? We will move indoors and adapt the movement activities so everyone can still take part comfortably. Do you offer 1-to-1 support? We do not provide 1-to-1 support. Young people are welcome to attend with their carer if they need additional support. Do you have more question? Please contact us on info@theneurodiversityfamilyhub.org
