What we'll do
Join us for foraging, exploration, rock pooling, animal tracking, and fun discovery of beautiful local natural places. This wild experience will provide the opportunity to get immersed in the wild places close to home! But most importantly it will be a really fun experience, an opportunity to meet new people and get outside this Easter. We will be meeting outside Bridlington CYP and we'll be heading to the excursion location in our minibus. Please bring suitable clothing and footwear for the weather. All food, drinks and snacks that we provide are vegetarian but feel free to bring your own! There will be three members of staff with you on the day all trained, experienced facilitators and first aid trained too.

About your mentors
Rewilding Youth
Education For Freedom
Rewilding Youth is a Community Interest Company which means that it is not for profit and has been created to serve the interests of the community it was set up to serve, in this case YOUNG PEOPLE. We know that spending time in nature can improve mood and wellbeing, but not everyone has easy access to the natural world especially those who live in an urban environment. This lack of access to the outdoors was exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic and research shows that this decreased exposure has led to young people suffering from ‘nature-deficit disorder’ (Louv, 2005) which presents itself through depression, social isolation, loneliness and a lack of decision making and problem solving skills. The Rewilding Youth project aims to tackle these problems through providing the opportunities for young people to access and immerse themselves within the natural environment with a view to giving them the opportunity to develop their own life-long connections with the outdoor environment. We use nature to reconnect young people living in disadvantaged urban areas with their local urban ‘wild’ spaces. Our service to young people ranges from one day to longer programmes of 'rewilding' experiences in which young people are introduced to bushcraft activities such as foraging, den making, fire-building, story telling, circle time and natural crafts. We also run wild camps and wild walks and more intensive 'rewilding programmes' which incorporate wild therapy, life-changing experiences and personal development opportunities for young people. We are particularly focused on facilitating nature connection opportunities for those young people who are the least likely to spend time outdoors whether that may be through lack of access to green and blue space, fear of discrimination and violence and social and/or physical isolation. As well as all the fantastic activities and projects that we facilitate outdoors, we also like to provide the space for young people to just... be themselves... to make decisions, take action, shout, climb, scream, run, swim or just sit and watch... and listen. We see ourselves as facilitators, we are just finding beautiful wild spaces which will help young people (and adults) to explore the world around them in whatever way suits them best - in this way they will ultimately learn to explore and discover themselves and their own capabilities. We also provide experiential learning opportunities for teachers, youth workers, parents, carers and anyone else who wants to learn more about some of the amazing ways we can all work together in and with nature to reconnect young people with their wild selves.

Hi my name is Col. I absolutely love being outside and especially on the beach! I have worked as an outdoor practitioner on the East Coast for 13 years now and every time I step onto one of our beautiful local beaches I discover something new! There truly is not much better than finding a fossil for the first time, discovering what lives in the rock pools or simply sitting back, listening to the sea, and relaxing. I really am looking forward to meeting you all, welcoming back old faces and exploring and discovering what our wonderful wild places have to offer! SEA you there.
