SEND Camp at Swim, Slide & Waves – Splash into Half-Term Fun! IMPORTANT: - PARENTS/CARERS MUST STAY ON SITE DURING THIS SESSION. - PARENTS/CARERS WHO ARE ENTERING THE POOL TO SUPPORT CHILDREN MUST COMPLETE A CARERS PASS BEFORE ATTENDING - ALL CHILDREN MUST BE ADDED AS CASUAL USERS ON OUR INTERNAL MEMBERSHIP SYSTEM TO ADHERE TO POOL SAFETY PROCEDURE - ADDITIONAL PARENTS/CARERS ENTERING THE POOL FOR SUPPORT ARE NOT COVERED BY THIS FUNDING/SCHEME AND MUST PAY THE STANDARD SWIM, SLIDE, AND WAVES FEE -£8.81 This event is free for HAF-eligible children aged 5-14 (In receipt of benefit related free school meals) - for further information please refer to the guidelines set out by Tameside MBC - https://www.tameside.gov.uk/earlyhelpoffer/parent-carer/haf Make a splash this half term with our exciting SEND Camp at Swim, Slide & Waves, specially designed for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Enjoy a safe, supportive environment filled with water-based fun – from gentle waves and relaxing swims to thrilling slides and play features. Our experienced staff are on hand to provide encouragement, ensure safety, and tailor the experience to every child’s needs and abilities. This is more than just a swim – it’s a chance to grow confidence, develop new skills, and most importantly, have fun with friends! Every body can splash, slide, and smile at Active Tameside!

Hobbies include long distance running for East Cheshire Harriers and season ticket holder at Manchester United!

1. Who is the session suitable for? This camp is designed for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) who are confident in the water. Activities are adapted to suit a range of needs, but a basic level of swimming ability is required. 2. Do children need to be able to swim? Yes – children must be able to swim and feel confident in the water. For safety reasons, this camp involves pool activities where independent movement in water is essential. If you're unsure about your child’s swimming ability, please get in touch before booking. 3. Is the water warm and accessible? Yes – the pool is heated and features accessible facilities, including gradual entry points, changing places, and pool hoists if needed. 4. What equipment does my child need? Please bring: Swimwear Towel Labelled water bottle Any personal care items your child may need Optional: goggles, swim cap, ear protection Floatation aids (if your child typically uses their own) 5. Are staff trained in SEND support? Yes – our staff are fully trained to support a wide range of additional needs. While we do not provide 1:1 or 2:1 support, we maintain a high staff-to-child ratio to ensure safety, supervision, and positive engagement for all participants. If your child requires 1:1 care, we welcome you to provide your own support worker or discuss options with us before booking. 6. How do you ensure my child’s safety? Supervision by qualified lifeguards and SEND-trained activity staff High staff presence for group monitoring Emergency contact and medical info gathered before the session Secure check-in/check-out procedures Quiet areas available for breaks or regulation 7. Can parents or carers stay during the session? The session is designed to encourage supported independence. However, if your child requires additional help, we’re happy to talk about reasonable adjustments, including the presence of a support worker or carer. 8. What if my child becomes overwhelmed? We offer: Access to calm, quiet spaces A friendly and understanding team Flexible participation Our staff are trained in behaviour support and de-escalation strategies. 9. How do I share my child’s needs with the team? You’ll be asked to complete a support needs form during the booking process. This allows us to tailor the experience to best suit your child.
