What we'll doOur Children and Family Centres offer a range of services from universal to families with children under five years old, in partnership with several other local agencies and organisations, which are available to all families. Services will also be offered, which can be tailored to meet individual families’ needs. Families can ask for support from the Children and Family Centre as and when they need it. If we are unable to help, we will try to help families find the support that they need. The centre will support families at the earliest opportunity to try and prevent small issues from turning into big ones.

SEND
Children have special educational needs/disabilities if they have needs or difficulty, which calls for special educational support/provision to be made for them. Children must not be regarded as having a learning difficulty solely because the language or form of language of their home is different from the language in which they will be taught. At Rye Oak Children & Family Hub we recognise that some children will need additional support to ensure access to the whole early years curriculum. We will develop practises and procedures, which will aim to ensure that children’s special educational needs are identified and assessed and that their care, learning and development is planned to meet their needs.
We recognise the vital roles of parents/carers in supporting their child’s development and learning and will work in partnership with parents/carers for the best interest of the child with special educational needs or disabilities, valuing their views and contributions to their child’s development.
We are committed to working collaboratively and will actively support the establishment and maintenance of close links with all agencies working with the
Registration
• The crèche registration form must be completed and handed to the Crèche Supervisor on your child’s first visit. You must also complete the Children and Family Hub registration form if you have not already completed it.
• Details of any medical conditions, allergies or additional needs your child may have are to be included in the appropriate section of the registration form.
• We are not permitted to administer any medication; however we must be given details of any medication your child is currently taking.
• We respectfully remind all parent/guardians not to bring a child into the crèche if they are suffering from sickness, diarrhea or any other potentially contagious illnesses or viruses, especially if are showing symptoms of COVID 19. This will help avoid the spread of infection amongst other children and staff.
Booking In and Out
• On arrival all children’s details must be entered onto the daily register. At this time please share any current concerns you may have regarding your child and any special instructions which will assist the staff in providing a positive experience for your child.
• Any items brought into the crèche must be labeled clearly with the child’s name (including soothers). This will help speed up registration and allow you to get to your chosen activity quickly.
• The adult who signs the child into the crèche on arrival must also be the one who signs them out at the end of the session.
Food and Drink
• We are happy for you to bring in a healthy snack and drink for your child
Suitable Clothing
• Please dress your child in suitable clothes as they may take part in creative activities such as painting or gluing and accidents do happen. Please also bring a change of clothes for children in case of toilet / play accidents.
Planning and Evaluation

Observation and tracking of children’s progress in the creche
Peckham, Rye Oak Children and Family Hub have introduced electronic learning journals. Using an online resource titled ‘Tapestry’, which stores information on a highly secure server, photographs and comments are recorded to track your child’s learning against the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) profile. We will work in partnership with you to identify the children we need to observe and track before they start in the creche, but there may be instances that children have started and need to be tracked a few weeks into attending the creche
Home visits
• Before children start to attend the creche it is important that we begin to establish the relationship with parents and children, how children interact within their home environment, their interests and dislikes and how we can begin the information sharing process with you. This will only apply with children who will be spending 6 months or longer in our creches
Care and Discipline
• If your child does not settle and becomes distressed, the crèche staff will ask you to return to the crèche to comfort them and to try to settle them or to end their session early.
• We are quite happy to continue to settle a child even if they take a number of visits to gain their confidence and for them to experience a positive crèche session. If you have any concerns relating to this matter please let us know.
• The staff are skilled in dealing with occasional challenging behavior but in extreme cases you will be called back to the crèche and will be expected to support the staff with your child. You will be fully informed of any issues and a way forward will be discussed.
Intimate Care
• Crèche staff are not permitted to change nappies (only for KWPBG where arrangements and agreements have been made in advance, given the nature of the group), therefore parents/carers will be required to change their child’s nappy. With regards to toilet training, parents will be required to assist their child if they cannot use the toilet independently (i.e. adjust clothing / wipe themselves). Crèche staff will be happy to help remind your child to visit the toilet and wash their hands. Please approach the crèche leader if you need further clarification.
Use of Mobile Phones by crèche staff
• Staff are instructed to lock their mobile phones away during their crèche working hours.
Accidents and injuries
• All accidents and injuries are recorded. A copy of the accident report is given to the parent
• Any existing injuries (that happened outside of the crèche/CFC) will need to be declared and will be recorded and parents will be asked to sign giving details of when and how the injuries occurred.
COVID
See risk assessment for full practice and procedures on COVID compliance settings.
