Barney
Activity Coach/Swimming teacher
I am Barney one of the Activity Coaches for Becontree HAF programme. I have been working in the leisure industry for nearly 7 years and currently work as a swimming teacher and a duty manager. I am a fully qualified swim teacher with various CPDS including making classes engaging for children with autism and training for the higher stages 8-10. I also hold other sport and leisure related certificates such as a Sport and exercise Science sub diploma (D* level) Tennis activator certificate, YMCA level 2 gym instructor, Lifeguard and CPR trained. My strongest skills are my communication and adaptability. Growing up hearing impaired, I can empathise the frustration many people feel in group dynamics when demonstrations are misunderstood due to a quiet voice or a loud background. Arguably, now I am the cause of the loud background as I ensure my class will be able to hear me, and see visually with my demonstrations being shown. With my various experience working with people with Muscular skeletal issues, my communication goes hand in hand with my adaptability as every body is different, and what may work with one person will not necessarily be the answer for another. My current new favourite sport is American pool, which has been a step out of my comfort zone from maximal effort sports like football and swimming, to finding peace and composure within a game. I have also been playing guitar for over a decade, but only when I can find the time now!
