Our curriculum
Our curriculum sets out the skills we want our children to learn during their time in our nurseries, Forest schools and Holiday clubs. It takes account of our ethos, values and most importantly, what our children need. Our Curriculum Aims The children are at the heart of everything we provide. We aim to equip the children with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful learners and positive, independent, and resilient citizens of our amazing world. Dunky`s Curriculum Intentions The focus, rationale and intention of all planned and spontaneous activities are around developing our children into confident, inquisitive, and curious learners. The heart of our curriculum in learning through Play There are five key themes we want our children to learn and develop; • Active bodies and minds • Confident communicators who are full of curiosity • Perseverance and a positive attitude towards learning • Expanding brains and exploratory mindsets • Empathetic, honest and responsible citizens of our fabulous world Our Pedagogy- How we deliver our curriculum intentions Our teachers are an essential part of our curriculum. They are tuned into the children and plan around their current interests and lines of thinking often `In the Moment`. We believe that children flourish and blossom when they have access to a carefully planned learning environment with interested and engaging adults. When we plan activities, we take this from what the children are interested in, what they already know and can do, and what we know they need to learn next. We link this information to our curriculum intentions to make sure we are consistently delivering a well – structured range of activities which meet our children`s different needs. We adapt our teaching to take account of all children`s unique learning styles and preferences. We value the multitude of skills, experience, and expertise our teachers provide and we celebrate the diverse range of learning patterns and styles. The development of new skills and knowledge are encouraged through adult – led and child- initiated learning opportunities both inside and outside.

Dunky's Day Nursery
Helping children to grow and learn
Dunky’s Day Nursery and Forest School in Hapsford, Frodsham is set in a beautiful Georgian country hall owned by Cheshire’s historic Barnston Estate. Beautifully presented and spacious, Hapsford Hall has plenty of outdoor areas for children to play and explore, including a very large paddock which we use daily as our Forest School. We are registered for 94 children aged 0-11 years. Providing young children with a holistic and well-rounded educational experience that combines the benefits of both indoor and outdoor environments to support their growth and development. A range of healthy meals and snacks are provided for the children that are balanced and nutritious and the setting achieved the Healthier together award for these menus. Forest School is a method of working outdoors with children, young people and adults, using the natural environment to promote social and emotional development. We believe in the holistic power of nature-led learning which is why we have a growing number of Forest Schools at our nurseries. It is an inspirational process that offers all learners regular opportunities to develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural surroundings. These learning experiences also help to develop communication and practical skills, as well as a greater understanding of the world around them. Encouraging children to expand their abilities by solving real-world issues, building self-belief and resilience, through hands on experiences. We offer Holiday Club for children aged 5-11 where the children are in a safe environment where they can succeed, create, and use maths and literacy skills without them even realising it! Through exploration and discovery, the children can enjoy and self-initiate their own learning.
