What we'll do
Morning: The first half of the day will consist of a Gravity Mechanic workshop. Beginning gently, you will be guided through a variety of patterns and tasks, focusing on coordination, mobility, expansiveness, and fluidity. The focus will be on learning how to harness weight, spirals, and the natural pathways of the body to travel seamlessly and easily in, out, and through the floor. There will be short sequences, crossings, and a longer phrase. Before lunch, there will be a dive into Seirian’s approach to partner work and contact improvisation, and the joyful freedom this can bring. Afternoon: Using the shared physical language developed in the morning session as a jumping-off point, you will learn and investigate some more detailed choreography, as well as using improvisation, instant composition, and small tasks to build new material. Going beyond the movement, there will be a weaving in of texture, imagery, and theatricality, through which a choreographic world can begin to emerge in which the group can find connection, sharing, and depth.

Ascension

Ascension uses Parkour and Dance to empower and inspire people. Based in the heart of Coventry at their home, Studio 17, they run classes for all ages, including young people with additional needs. Our goal isn’t just to create the next generation of dancers (though that would be amazing); it’s to use movement to develop resilient, well-rounded humans. Join a class and experience the warmth and community vibe for yourself.
Frankie
Performer, Teacher and Choreographer
Warm & bubbly. Frankie believes people are capable of much more than they know. Her lessons encourage risk taking and being bold. Either through creative challenges, expanding movement or developing technical skills. Come join her sessions, find your own flow and push through limitations!
About the Artist
Seirian (“Say-ree-an”) (he/him) is a dancer, choreographer, teacher, and musician, based in London. Since graduating Rambert School, Seirian has worked internationally with high-profile companies such as Balletboyz and Punchdrunk, as well as commercially for brands including Nike, Merrell, Levi’s, and Calvin Klein. Most recently, he was part of the originating cast of Quadrophenia: A Mod Ballet for the UK tour, and was assistant rehearsal director for their limited run at New York City Centre. He has created several self-produced dance-theatre works for Resolution festival, and in May will be premiering a new creation on Balletboyz at Sadler’s Wells. He has built his movement teaching methodology, Gravity Mechanics, from a broad experience in different physical practices. Growing up, he trained in Ju-Jitsu and explored a variety of circus and acrobatic disciplines alongside his dance training.
