What we'll do
Morning Session The morning class will explore movement phrases that seamlessly travel between standing and floor-based work, drawing on Ascension's distinctive physical movement style. Participants will explore moving fluidly in and out of the floor while developing strength, coordination, and efficiency of movement. Rooted in a fusion of contemporary dance techniques, the session will incorporate intricate floorwork, momentum-based transitions, and opportunities to explore inversion work where appropriate. Dancers will be encouraged to challenge their physicality, expand their movement vocabulary, and discover new pathways through space. Emphasis will be placed on flow, musicality, spatial awareness, and the integration of technical precision with expressive movement. Afternoon Session In the afternoon, Ashley will lead a creative choreographic exploration into duet work, focusing on the development of detailed movement material, patterning, and interpersonal relationships within dance. Through a series of structured tasks and creative exercises, participants will investigate how connection, timing, and physical dialogue can generate compelling choreography. The session will encourage curiosity, collaboration, and attentive listening between partners, creating opportunities to build nuanced and engaging duet material that highlights both individual expression and collective connection. Throughout the workshop, participants will develop greater confidence in collaborative movement-making while deepening their understanding of rhythm, detail, and physical storytelling.

Ascension
Empowering peopple thourgh dance and movement
Ascension uses Parkour and Dance to empower and inspire people. Based in the heart of Coventry at their home, Studio 17, they run classes for all ages, including young people with additional needs. Our goal isn’t just to create the next generation of dancers (though that would be amazing); it’s to use movement to develop resilient, well-rounded humans. Join a class and experience the warmth and community vibe for yourself.
Ashley (AJ)
Company Director
AJ, Company Director of Ascension, is a warm and energising presence, always seeking new ways to get people moving and to share the joy he discovered in movement as a young person. He thrives on seeing someone achieve something they once thought impossible and is excited to support new participants as they discover their own potential through Ascension workshops.
About the Artist
Ashley Jordan Choreographic Bio Ashley Jordan - Company Director and Choreographer for Ascension Dance Since graduating with a Master's in Dance Performance from the University of Chichester, Ashley has developed a wide pool of experience, performing, workshop leading and facilitating space for people to access and engage in dance, alongside developing his performance portfolio. He has worked with or alongside Motionhouse, Highly Sprung, Fevered Sleep, Mercurial Dance, Autin Dance Theatre and Corey Baker Dance as a freelance dance/performance artist. In 2017, he, alongside Ben Morley, founded Ascension Dance Company, which in the last 8 years has taken him across the world, working in Cyprus and South Africa and collaborating with companies such as BBC, Sky Arts, Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, and Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, to name a few. He has built relationships across the Arts and Cultural sector, partnering with One Dance UK, The Sparks Arts, South East Dance, Compton Verney, Fabric and The Albany Theatre, Coventry. He is proud to develop a partnership with Warwick Arts Centre from both a participatory and performance point of view. He is honoured to be one of their upcoming Associate Artists. Choreographically, his work is rooted in feelings and centred around our human connection to others. Ashley uses relationships and a powerful movement vocabulary to create choreographic pieces that aim to stretch our perception of who we are and what motivates us as people. This work will physically challenge the concept of play for young people, embodying ideas of Ashley’s love, invention and creative outlets.
