What we'll do
Workshop Overview The day will begin with a dynamic physical warm-up designed to prepare the body for climbing, jumping, balancing, and vaulting. This full-day workshop focuses on equipping dancers with transferable on-set movement skills—empowering them to work confidently and creatively in unusual or site-specific environments often encountered in professional dance and commercial settings. Participants will train in a versatile space featuring scaffold structures, vault boxes, and a variety of obstacle setups. These environments will support dancers in developing the ability to navigate complex spaces with innovation, adaptability, and expressive physicality. Throughout the workshop, dancers will learn to apply these skills safely and artistically, strengthening their capacity to traverse, interact with, and command any environment they may encounter in future work. This workshop is parkour-skill focused, with the aim of giving participants a fresh toolkit of tricks, techniques, and movement pathways to draw upon in upcoming projects. If you’re looking for creative ways to apply these skills choreographically, keep an eye out for our Set Work and Devising Workshop happening later this year.

About The Company
Ashley Jordan and Ben Morley – Ascension Dance Company Ashley Jordan and Ben Morley are the co-founders and creative force behind Ascension Dance Company, known for their high-energy physical work that merges contemporary dance, parkour, and human narratives. Together, they create performance work and workshops that inspire, challenge, and engage audiences of all ages. Founded in 2017, Ascension Dance has built a reputation for bold, physical storytelling that places movement at the centre of narrative. Their performances blend floorwork, contact partnering, and parkour-inspired movement to create dynamic performance that is both visually striking and emotionally resonant. Ashley and Ben are passionate about making dance accessible, especially for young people, and regularly deliver education and outreach work across the UK. Their work lives at the intersection of dance and urban physicality, pushing the boundaries of what dance can be—on stage, in schools, and in the community. Ashley is a movement director and facilitator with a background in contemporary dance and education, while Ben brings expertise in acrobatics, choreography, and physical theatre. Together, they have developed a collaborative practice that celebrates risk, physical contact, and authentic human connection.
