About your mentor
NEAT
Empowering youth through sport and support.
What began as two football-obsessed teenagers coaching one-on-one has blossomed into a vibrant community hub that transforms young lives every day. Early days The seeds of NEAT (New Era Academy Training) were planted when Ben and Grant met as youth coaches at Chelsea FC. Both shared a love for football and a dream of passing on their skills to the next generation. Starting with one-to-one training sessions, their passion and unique approach soon attracted young players from as far as Australia. Working with local children and young people revealed a deeper purpose. In Epsom and Ewell, Ben and Grant saw families struggling to find safe, engaging spaces for their children. This reflected their own experiences of growing up in the local area. So, football training evolved into a mission to support the community. When COVID-19 hit, that mission was tested to the max. The team showed what NEAT is made of – launching online sessions, organising outdoor activities, and finding creative ways to keep children active and connected. Football’s coming home Then came a turning point: the opportunity to redevelop an old bowling green clubhouse in Pound Lane Recreation Ground. This is what NEAT HQ looks like today. Through determination and lots of community support, this neglected space is now a thriving hub that hundreds of local families call their second home. NEAT HQ buzzes with activity every day – from sports and fun to holiday camps to community fundraisers. NEAT has helped local families facing medical emergencies and supported children at the Royal Marsden Hospital. Each event and initiative shows what's possible when a community comes together. Going places Looking ahead, NEAT is working toward charitable status and hoping to expand both reach and impact across the UK. The heart of their mission is unchanged: creating safe spaces where every child can thrive.
