About your mentor
The Soul Shack LDN CIC
Educate, Elevate, Empower
The Soul Shack is a youth and lived experience led social enterprise tackling youth violence at the root and in a holistic manner. Serving as a hub and training point for at risk young people aged 16-25, they receive entrepreneurship, leadership and cooking training through planning and facilitating our community programmes, as well as emotional support for trauma. We have two main goals with the work we aim to do in the community, with the first arm being community based workshops run for those at risk of violence and exploitation, and the second being food security initiatives such as a food bank, free breakfasts and food drives for community members. Regarding our workshops and programmes, we aim to be the first restaurant of its kind tackling youth violence and trauma in a holistic manner, serving as a hub and training point for at risk young people aged 16-25, where they will receive entrepreneurship, leadership and cooking training through our paid work programme, and emotional support for trauma.   We also aim to do a ten-week taster programme of our Yearlong programme where participants aged 10-25 will be trained in business and leadership, cooking, receive 1-2-1 mentoring and coaching support or tuition from a peer mentor and receive ‘how to stop bleeding’ training.   Following the initial lockdown because of COVID 19, we have decided to focus less on our programmes and more on our food security and educational aims. In this time we have run countless youth and community led Summer programmes as well as half term programmes, ran cooking workshops on Programmes with Surrey Cricket Foundation, ran free Black Psychology healing circles for young people, Christmas Craft events, Christmas Food and Present Drives serving 125 people, a Growing Kit Drive, started our own community led garden, done small scale catering, a weekly food bank and much more. We are also currently planning a community store/cafe, as well as cooked food and ethnic fruits, vegetables and food products in Kennington where we hope to hold more free sessions and initiatives and develop spaces in the community for use by all.
