About your mentor
Charlie Hodgson Guitar Lessons | Children Ages 4+
Professional, welcoming guitar teacher
I’m Charlie Hodgson, a 37-year-old professional musician and tutor based in Kings Langley. I’ve been teaching guitar for over 20 years, and playing for 30+ — from first gigs to huge concert stages, and now from my quiet home studio or over Zoom. Whether you’re just starting out, picking up where you left off, or want to develop a more advanced style — I teach in a way that’s relaxed, friendly, and fully tailored to your goals. I work with complete beginners, kids aged 4+, teens, adults, retired learners, and advanced players prepping for exams or performances. I am also fully experienced with teaching neurodivergent people, including ADHD and autism, with many of my neurodiverse pupils praising my patience and ability to embrace their unique differences. If you’re looking for structured progress and the freedom to play music you actually enjoy, you’re in the right place. Curious if it’s right for you? Drop me a message – I’ll happily talk through options.
What Will My Child Learn?
These gentle one-to-one sessions focus on building your child’s confidence and musical ear through simple rhythms, playful repetition and familiar melodies. Your child will be introduced to the basics of holding the guitar, strumming with control and developing their natural sense of timing — all in a relaxed and encouraging setting. We work at their pace, making music fun and pressure-free from the start.
Learning aims
Aim 1
To introduce young children to the guitar in a fun, hands-on way — sparking early interest in music through sounds, shapes & simple rhythms tailored to their age & attention span.
Aim 2
To help children build early confidence & concentration through one-to-one musical interaction encouraging them to focus & feel proud of their progress in a supportive setting
Aim 3
To gently support the development of fine motor skills & hand-eye coordination through age-appropriate guitar-based activity, laying foundations for musical learning.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Do we need to bring a guitar? Yes, we ask that children bring their own guitar so they can get used to the feel of their instrument at home and during lessons. If you’re unsure what size or type to buy, Charlie will happily guide you with personalised recommendations — no pressure, just honest advice based on years of experience teaching little hands. Q: Can I stay during the lesson? Yes, absolutely. Especially for younger learners, parents often choose to sit in during the early lessons — it’s a great way to ease your child in gently and see what we’re working on. Q: What happens if we need to cancel a lesson? We understand that life (and little ones) can be unpredictable. All we ask is that you give at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or reschedules — this helps us keep things running smoothly and ensures your reserved time can be offered to someone else. Full details are available in Charlie’s lesson terms on his website. Q: Do lessons run during school holidays? Yes — many families continue lessons during the holidays. If you’re planning a break, just let Charlie know with 4 weeks notice so we can adjust your schedule. Regular weekly attendance is key to building confidence and momentum. Q: Can we stop lessons at any time? Of course — if you decide to pause or stop lessons, Charlie simply asks for a little notice so your space can be offered to another family. You’re never locked in long-term, but we kindly ask for good communication (4 weeks notice). Q: Are you DBS checked and experienced with children? Yes — Charlie is fully DBS checked, with over 20 years of teaching experience and more than 30 years as a professional, gigging musician as well as fully experienced and well-reviewed when it comes to neurodivergent children too. His home studio in Kings Langley is a calm, child-friendly space where little ones feel comfortable, encouraged and safe to learn at their own pace. Q: What if my child is feeling shy or unsure? No problem at all — every child is different, and Charlie tailors the pace and approach to their personality. There’s no pressure to perform or play a certain way. These early sessions are all about confidence-building, fun and discovering the joy of music. Q: How do I book a space or ask a question? You can message Charlie directly via WhatsApp on ‭07709 118932‬ or email at contact.charliehodgsonmusic@gmail.com. He’s always happy to help.

Cancellation Policy
Cancel at least 48 hours before the start to receive a full refund.LESSON BOOKING & PAYMENT Lessons are paid for in advance in monthly blocks of four. Payment secures your weekly time slot. Payment for the next block is due on the day of your final lesson of the current block. This reserves your regular weekly time slot. Please ensure to send your payments on time. Payment methods: bank transfer or cash. Your next lesson slot is not guaranteed until payment is received. CANCELLATIONS, RESCHEDULES & MISSED LESSONS 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule any lesson – for any reason (including illness, holidays, school events). If 48 hours' notice has been adhered to, I will try to find you a new time slot or credit you another lesson. Please note however, there is no guarantee of a re-schedule. Less than 48 hours’ notice? That session will still be charged and can’t be rescheduled. I’ll always try to offer a new slot if I can, but it’s not guaranteed. No-shows (non-attendance with no notice) will be charged in full. FEELING UNWELL? If you or your child is unwell (cold, flu, Covid symptoms, etc): Should you wish to cancel or re-schedule, our lesson will not be refunded unless I have been given 48 hours notice, as per my cancellations policy. The same goes for no-shows due to illness. We can however switch your session to Zoom at the usual time (paid-for at the usual rate). Just ensure you pre-arrange this with me in advance. If you do not want to switch to a Zoom, please ensure you give 48 hours notice to avoid your lesson being charged. Please don’t bring visibly unwell children in person. I may refuse the lesson without refund if a child arrives clearly unwell.

My experience consists of a leisure activity, on a specific date(s), and therefore the 14-day ‘cooling off period’ under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 does not apply.
