What we'll do
Acorn Hollow for older children. Come along and join like-minded friends to cook a meal around the campfire. We will learn how to build the perfect fire for cooking. Prepare the ingredients together, cook and then share the meal. Special diets can be catered for given enough notice. If you are returning, you will even have the opportunity to plan the meal in the previous weeks session. Acorn Hollow is the seed of an idea rooted in the land and Wolds around us. It’s the very essence of promoting curiosity, enthusiasm, wonder and connection with the outdoors and natural environment through outdoor learning using forest school methods. Forest School We hear the term Forest School a lot but what does it actually mean? It is a way of teaching through the outside world and outdoor classroom to affect the internal world of the learner, inspiring emotional, social, spiritual, intellectual and physical development. Learning in a forest environment is recognised to lead to better emotional understanding, problem solving and resilience among many other benefits. Here at Acorn Hollow we take the Forest School ethos and blend it very uniquely within a small farm setting. We aim to take Forest School as an environmental learning pathway and push this further in to understanding the uses of our land for resources, farming and food. Working alongside our livestock helps to make this link.

Campfire Cooking Session
Arrive at Acorn Hollow at 3pm ready for an epic outdoor cooking adventure! First, we’ll head off to collect wood for the campfire and learn how to build and light the perfect cooking fire like real outdoor explorers. Then it’s time to become campfire chefs! You’ll work together to prepare and cook a delicious meal from scratch. If we have enough cooks joining us, we may even split into teams for a fun cook-off challenge to see who can create the tastiest campfire feast. While the food cooks, there’ll be time to play games, relax around the fire, chat with friends, and enjoy the magic of being outdoors. Once everything is ready, we’ll sit together around the campfire to enjoy the meal we’ve created before helping to tidy up and heading home full of food, fun, and adventure.
