Animal assisted activities support one’s emotional, mental and physical health needs and can be an essential part of therapeutic intervention for children, young people and adults. As an animal’s behaviour cannot always be predicted it is important that you read and acknowledge the information set out within this disclaimer and provide consent to agreeing to the rules and regulations set out by Pets4People. Participants agree to: • Provide at least 48 hours’ notice of any changes to your planned support, otherwise you may still be charged (N/A for those who attend a session that is paid for by an organisation who are contracting with Pets4People i.e. college, community group etc) • Not touch any animals, their housing etc or feed them unless asked to do so/supervised by a member of staff • Do not use your personal mobile phone during sessions other than in the event of an emergency or if permission is granted by Pets4People staff • Wash hands thoroughly before and after handling any animal and follow all infection control/health & safety regulations in place • Adhere to all safety measures in place when accessing workshops/group & 1:1 activity sessions delivered by Pets4People, follow instruction of staff during sessions to ensure both pets and people remain safe throughout • Inform a member of staff immediately of any safeguarding concern or breach of safety measures • Be respectful of others and their needs when accessing group activities • Not share confidential information that may be divulged during activity sessions • Inform Pets4People if you are pregnant, have any allergies or phobias relating to animals • Inform Pets4People if you have had any illnesses in the last 4 weeks that can transfer to animals/other people, such as ringworm Generally, animals have their own natural defence mechanisms. Therefore, it is necessary to always keep in mind precautionary measures to prevent injuries such as getting scratched or bitten. Not all bites may be due to responses to defence or threat. Animals often use their mouths for playing, which means there could be instances of playful biting that occur. Playful biting would mean that you may feel the pet's teeth but gentle ones. They don't intend to bite down to do harm. Animals use their bodies for communication. They may lean on and brush their bodies against a person or show the wagging of their tails as a sign of interest. This may lead to happy, boisterous behaviour such as running, jumping etc that may cause injury. Our pets are kept up to date with vaccinations and have annual health checks; however it is normal as well for them to carry diseases. Therefore, it is important to be aware that in such cases there is a very small risk that you might contract a disease, which is why it is essential to follow out infection control procedures before, during and after an animal assisted activity. Please note; those receiving immunotherapy treatment such as chemotherapy are at greater risk of contracting a disease. Animal Welfare Animals have individual rights. Animals should be treated equally as members of the moral community and should be treated humanely and without unnecessary suffering. They should be treated gently and not appear uncomfortable, they have a right to have access to health care and if an animal becomes distressed or presenting in a way that could cause duress to both pet and person the session will be terminated immediately. Acknowledgment By signing this form/booking an animal assisted activity session, you are hereby declaring your understanding and accept the rules and regulations of Pets4people Ltd. You are fully releasing Pets4People Ltd from any liability or damages, should any occur during an animal assisted activity and support session. You understand the benefits and risks involved in the method of animal assisted activities and accept the full liability in event that the animal inadvertently harms you or your child during the activity and support session.
