Our curriculum

Our philosophy on basketball is that it is a vehicle for self-development. Fundamentals come first, such as passing, scoring, defending, moving without the ball, and team communication. We teach a positionless, high-IQ, team-first style of play. Winning is a by-product of consistency, discipline, preparation, and togetherness. Every session is a chance to enjoy and to develop players as athletes and people. Our sessions are planned, purposeful, and challenging. We coach details and we coach each person.

Brixton TopCats Basketball Club

Empowering young people through basketball

We are the Brixton TopCats Basketball Club, a legacy-driven community programme rooted in South London. We exist to empower young people through basketball, mentorship, and life skills development. We see basketball as a fun sport and a vehicle for life development.

Eligibility Criteria

Lambeth HAF-funded places are for children and young people in reception to year 11 who receive benefits-related free school meals and attend a school in Lambeth. (Please note, this is different to universal free school meals that are available to all school-aged children). Each child can book up to 4 sessions this Spring with any provider. Monday - Thursday is HAF funded and those eligible will receive lunch and snacks. Friday session is not HAF funded and you will need to pay and bring a packed lunch. If you are paying to attend the camp throughout the week, please also bring a packed lunch and water.

Camp Leaders

These highly talented pair of brothers, Ronnie and Stedroy Baker have inspired a generation of basketballers to get involved in the sport. What they achieved after starting out at Brixton is remarkable. Now, you’ll get the chance to train with them! Ronnie Baker remains England’s most capped player with 156 appearances. The legendary guard won a bronze medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and collected a host of awards and honours across British basketball, playing for clubs including Manchester Giants, London Leopards, and London Towers. Stedroy Baker also enjoyed a long and successful career, playing in the British Basketball League for Birmingham Bullets, Sheffield Sharks, Leicester Riders, Thames Valley Tigers and Derby in the NBL. He earned 14 international caps, with his first coming against Denmark in 1991.
