A summary
Bowerbirdy Academy Film School gives young people the opportunity to create their own film from start to finish. Participants learn storyboarding, script writing, acting, prop making, filming and editing while working as part of a production team. Using professional equipment including cameras, gimbals, drones and editing software, they develop creative, technical and teamwork skills in a fun and engaging environment. Sessions also include active games, prop hunts and physical activities throughout the day to keep participants moving and engaged. No previous filmmaking experience is required.

Bowerbirdy Academy delivers free, inclusive and creative activities for children and teenagers aged 9 to 15, supporting physical and mental wellbeing through imagination, learning and play. We provide safe spaces where young people build confidence, develop life skills and form friendships.

Mentor for creativity and confidence
I create spaces where young people can be themselves, explore ideas without pressure and build confidence through creativity. My sessions are hands-on, social and focused on doing, giving young people the freedom to express themselves while developing real-world skills. My background spans business ownership, recruitment and leading large-scale events and programmes across the UK. Alongside this, Bowerbirdy Academy has been my passion project for over 10 years, supporting more than 120,000 children through creative holiday programmes. I also created Whitebridge, focused on mental health and emotional wellbeing in children and young people, which shapes how I support every individual I work with. I focus on helping young people grow in confidence, communication and social skills through creativity and teamwork, creating an environment where they feel comfortable, included and able to develop at their own pace.

What to Expect
At Bowerbirdy Academy Film School, young people work together to create their own short film from idea to final edit. Throughout the programme they will develop story ideas, write scripts, create props, act on camera, operate professional filming equipment and learn basic editing techniques. Participants will have the opportunity to use cameras, drones, gimbals and other filmmaking equipment while learning how a real film production works. Activities are designed to suit beginners as well as those with a keen interest in filmmaking. The programme also includes active elements such as location scouting, filming challenges, dodgeball, prop hunts and team games to ensure young people achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day. By the end of the programme, participants will have contributed to the creation of an original film while building confidence, creativity, communication and teamwork skills. Participants will also receive access to our editing platform, allowing them to continue developing their films and practise their editing skills long after the programme has finished.
