A summary
Our Autism Friendly Forest Discovery Club is a relaxed, supportive forest school session designed especially for autistic children and those with additional needs. The sessions take place in a calm outdoor woodland environment where children can explore nature at their own pace. Each session will provide gentle, child-led opportunities to discover the forest through a variety of nature-based activities, sensory experiences, and simple woodland skills. Activities will be flexible and adapted to suit the needs, interests, and comfort levels of the group on the day. Children are welcome to take part in as much or as little as they like. The small group size helps create a safe, predictable, and low-pressure environment, allowing children to build confidence outdoors, try new experiences, and enjoy nature in a way that works for them. Sessions are structured but flexible, with clear guidance and support from experienced instructors. Parents and carers stay during the session, helping children feel comfortable and supported while also enjoying the experience together. This club is ideal for families looking for a calm, inclusive outdoor activity where autistic children can connect with nature, socialise gently with others, and explore in a supportive setting. About your mentors
Venturewood
Education that grows outdoors
Venturewood is the outdoor education arm of The Petty Pool Trust, a charity supporting young people with learning disabilities and difficulties. We offer inclusive, adventure-based learning that builds confidence, independence, and life skills in a safe, supportive environment. Our programmes run across two sites: our long-established Cheshire woodland centre in Sandiway, and a new location at Delamere Forest in partnership with Forestry England. We offer a mix of activities suitable for all ages and abilities. Whether it’s Forest School, seasonal workshops, wellbeing sessions, school visits, residentials, or community sessions, Venturewood provides high-quality outdoor learning experiences that inspire personal growth through challenge and connection with nature.
Rachel
Outdoor Instructor
Hi, I'm Rachel. I have been an instructor for over 6 years facilitating forest activities such as bushcraft, orienteering, and team games, and adventure sports such as sailing, climbing, paddling, and archery. My perfect Sunday would be a sunrise hike and lake swim, checking on my beehives, and relaxing on hammocks by a campfire as the sun sets. In my spare time I like to crochet, sew, paint and build to create anything I need or make gifts for people.
