What we'll do
There are two options for this walk around Aldeburgh. For both we will meet at the Thorpe Road Car Park which is near the Scallop Sculpture (IP15 5BH). Here you can either pay and display or use the Ringo App to purchase a ticket. Alternatively you can park for free on nearby roads such as Church Farm road. The shorter walk will start at 11am and is approximately 1.5 miles long. Following a short warm up on the beach we will set off along the coastal path towards Thorpeness. About half way along the path we will turn left and go across the nature reserve toward the track of the old railway line. This is a great opportunity to spot birds in the marshland. At the railway path we will turn left again and head back towards Aldeburgh, cutting through Church Farm Caravan Park on our way back to the car park where we will cool down.. There will then be an opportunity to have a picnic lunch on the beach if the weather is fine or alternatively in one of the local cafes. The longer walk is approximately 3.5 miles long and will start at 1pm from the same car park. Again we will start our walk on the coastal path towards Thorpeness once we have completed our warm up. On reaching Thorpeness we will pass close to the Meare and then take the path past the House in the Clouds and golf course, returning to Aldeburgh along the disused railway path. We will then make our way back to the beach through the caravan park.

About Nordic Health Walks
The aim of these monthly Nordic Walks is to get people together, explore different locations within Suffolk and South Norfolk and make new friends whilst practising the Nordic Walking technique. Walks are held on different days, different times and in different places with the hope that everyone will be able to attend at least once in a while. The walks are run for charity, with a £3 donation collected per person per walk. Some of the walks are planned and led by Charlotte and others are planned and led by members of the group. As Charlotte is not always able to walk and risk assess the route before the date, anyone coming on a Health Walk needs to be aware that they do so at their own risk! Charlotte leads a warm up and a cool down at the end of each walk and an opportunity is built in for a coffee or lunch before or after the walk. The walks tend to be 3-4 miles in length with a shorter route option for those who want to come but not walk as far. Please note that you need to be familiar with the Nordic Walking technique in order to come on a Nordic Health Walk. Poles may be borrowed if you don’t have your own.

About Nordic Walking
Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking experience. With a technique that is similar to the upper body action of classic cross-country skiing, Nordic Walking is a whole body exercise that can be enjoyed at many levels, from walking for health to athletic Nordic running. More than 10 million people globally enjoy this outdoor activity all year round. Nordic Walking combines the simplicity and accessibility of walking with simultaneous core and upper body conditioning similar to Nordic skiing. The result is a full body workout, which means that you: • burn up to 46% more calories compared to walking without poles • release tension in the neck and shoulders • improve your posture and gait • strengthen your back and abdominal muscles • reduce the impact on the joints And because Nordic Walking doesn’t feel like hard work, you’ll be happy to walk further and for longer.
