A summary
Have you heard about the benefits of Nordic Walking for people with Parkinson's? Would you like to find out more about the technique? Perhaps you'd like to come to a taster session to see if it's something that you'd like to learn how to do. Thanks to funding from 'Parkinson's UK', this taster session is FREE and open to people with Parkinson's and their partner, a friend or a carer. During the taster session you will learn about the origins, basic principles and benefits of Nordic Walking. You will be provided with a pair of Nordic Walking poles that are fitted to your size and you will be introduced to the 10-step technique that is used to teach Nordic Walking by British Nordic Walking instructors. The session will start with a gentle warm up and then a combination of exercises and drills will be used to introduce the Nordic Walking technique. We will finish with cool down stretches. The taster session is suitable for all levels of ability - "If you can walk, you can Nordic Walk." Following the session there will be the opportunity to join a 4-week 'Learn to Nordic Walk' course in order to become proficient in the Nordic Walking technique. All sessions will take place at Needham Lakes near Ipswich.

About Nordic Walking
Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking experience. With a technique that is similar to the upper body action of classic cross-country skiing, Nordic Walking is a whole body exercise that can be enjoyed at many levels, from walking for health to athletic Nordic running. More than 10 million people globally enjoy this outdoor activity all year round. Nordic Walking combines the simplicity and accessibility of walking with simultaneous core and upper body conditioning similar to Nordic skiing. The result is a full body workout, which means that you: • burn up to 46% more calories compared to walking without poles • release tension in the neck and shoulders • improve your posture and gait • strengthen your back and abdominal muscles • reduce the impact on the joints And because Nordic Walking doesn’t feel like hard work, you’ll be happy to walk further and for longer.
