A SUMMARY

After this stop start year, we believe it is really important for children to be outside, playing, learning and feeling part of a community. Our groups give children the freedom to explore, play, learn and connect to the natural world. Sessions will be child-led, we observe and draw out learning opportunities when they arise naturally! Over time with us you can expect your child to be exposed to: Fire lighting skills Campfire cooking Foraging Green wood working Conservation Natural shelter building And lots of fun and games!!! Sessions will be weekly on Tuesdays 10:00am - 3:00pm. This group will be for children aged 6-12, if we get enough interest, we will consider creating an older group.

Seeking Wild·Reconnecting kids with the wild
Seeking Wild has been set up to connect children back to nature. Facilitating a space for children to explore, play and learn in a wilder environment. In a world more disconnected than ever from the natural world, it’s never been so important to get children back outside having real life meaningful experiences in nature. Seeking Wild is comprised of Reece Allen and Lydia Crook, along with other occasional skilled and passionate mentors who believe in the philosophy of Seeking Wild. Reece Allen - I have worked with children for the last 4 years, my journey first started as a football coach. Which led me into working in a primary school as a HLTA & Forest School Leader, ultimately leading to me setting up Seeking Wild. As well as being a qualified Forest School Leader, I am passionately deeping my knowledge and skills in other disciplines. Such as Bushcraft, Natural Movement and Nature Connection, through workshops, mentors and self study. What I love most is exposing children to new meaningful experiences in nature through exploration and play! Lydia Crook - My love for working with children started a long time ago! I was an Au Pair for a year in France when I was 18. I then went on to study Sociology and Politics at university, and whilst at university I enrolled on a yoga teacher training course to follow my passion for holistic wellbeing. As well as teaching in studios I ran student yoga classes, taught refugee and asylum seekers, and was involved in various holiday programmes offering yoga to children. In the last few years I have moved away from yoga slightly as I became increasingly aware that I love teaching children but felt that I wanted to offer more. I started to research different learning theories and found the forest school ethos which I felt very inline with. I have gone on to undertake my forest school leader training and have worked at Little Forest Folks Nursery, and with Seeking Wild during camps before now running Seeking Wild full time with Reece. What I love most is exposing children to new experiences and watching them explore in a child-led environment.

Learning aims

Develop a deeper understanding and connection to the natural world.

Strengths to develop

Our site is located in an old quarry, which has been left for the last 40ish years. The complexity of this wild environment will require the children to use their whole body to move through it. From physical strength to spatial awareness.
