A summary
DSDT is proud to present a new provision under Brighton and Hove Short Breaks, welcome to the Link Up! Initially Link Up will be a base on 7 day camp sessions throughout this summer! This is an additional provision to all of our current ones. Link Up is specifically designed to engage other young people with SEND needs that are currently not covered by our Down Syndrome Provision. At present, we are registered to provide day camps exclusively for children and young people aged 8 years and older who require a high level of support, either 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 if necessary. We also offer Personal and Intimate Care if and when needed. Our day camp program includes a variety of scheduled activities as well as many free-flow options, necessitating a high staff-to-child ratio for effective implementation. We value feedback from our families, which helps us tailor our activities to personal preferences, thereby increasing motivation, engagement, and overall enjoyment of our sessions. Over the years, our successful day camps have included arts and crafts, cooking, multi-sports, music sessions, and movie showings. We also provide a space to relax and hang out, sensory spaces and objects to cater for sensory issues. We often host special events or invite guest professionals. Examples include bouncy assault courses, nerf gun battles, petting zoos, bubble shows, and more.

Our service includes support to individuals and their families via educational, sport, enrichment and social groups for children and young people with Down syndrome.
Abbey Tayler
DSDT Short Breaks Coordinator
I have been working with DSDT since October 2023 running their Short Breaks provision, with a focus on enrichment, inclusion and social learning. Previous to my work with DSDT I have experience working with children and young people with a wide range of complex needs, helping them to access adventure activities in a summer camp environment and 7 years experience working with individuals with Autism and SEMH difficulties in a specialist setting. I am a bubbly individual with a passion for making the "impossible" possible and a desire to empower children and young people to reach their full potential.

FAQs
Q: Will my young person be able to attend as they are already registered with DSDT? A: No, the Link Up provision is an additional provision to support other SEND needs, DS specific activities are available. Q: Is this first come first serve? A: No, our team are working closely with B&HCC, Tudor House and Drove Road to ensure fairness and equal distribution of sessions amongst all the young people looking to join us this summer. Q: Is Link Up for this Summer only? A: No! The 7 summer sessions currently offered are just the beginning. We believe all young people with SEND needs should have access to appropriate and beneficial provisions, therefore we want to continue offering services and support in the long term and the feedback and development of Link Up is just the start.
