What we'll do
Our club focuses on cultural activities for children of African heritage. However, children of other ethnic groups interested in learning about our culture and traditions are welcome to join us. We have a theme that the children are made aware of, and we build our activities around this theme. For example, this Christmas, we will focus on how Christmas is celebrated in the Caribbean. Last Easter, our theme was "Easter in East Africa." The children explored how they dressed at Easter and incorporated jewellery-making into our arts and crafts. We ended with a reenactment of the feast by having a BBQ. The lovely weather afforded us the opportunity to sit in the side garden and have our BBQ lunch with Afrobeats playing. Some physical activities encourage team building, skill development, and learning about cultural games. Health Education is one of the children's favourites, as we provide demonstrations and learn about cultural foods and healthy eating. They have fun making things, some of which they take home, and get the opportunity to develop a range of skill sets.
