What we'll do
Do you like building things? Become a research and development engineer for the day. Be curious, see how things work and how you can make them better. Strong bridges - Can you build a bridge that supports 1, 2 or 3 kilos in weight? Test out your idea and see how much load it can take before it collapses. Rocket cars - Build an air powered rocket car using K’nex. Test it and make modifications to improve its performance. Race it on our track to see how far it will travel in a straight line. You can book for the morning, afternoon or both sessions.
About your mentor
Bloodhound Education Ltd
Inspiring a generation to study STEAM
Bloodhound Education is a charity which delivers hands-on science and engineering activities for schools, uniformed groups, after school and holiday clubs, and the local community. Our charity has 13-years experience delivering practical enrichment workshops engaging families of all ages including under-represented groups and those with complex health or special educational needs. Our workshops enrich the curriculum and make the link between classroom and careers using real engineering projects like Bloodhound Land Speed Record as an educational tool and to explore future sustainable engineering solutions and renewable technology.
Eligibility and food
For children who live in South Gloucestershire. These sessions are fully funded for children eligible for free school meals. (Usually £15 per child, per session.) Adults free. Our workshops are suitable for families with children aged 5 upwards. Children under 9 years to be accompanied by an adult. Lunch will be provided for all children, and special dietary requirements can be catered for. All adults are to bring a packed lunch. Free coffee, tea, soft drinks and fruit snacks available for all during the day.
Learning aims
Aim 1
Build a bridge and test it to destruction. Design and build your own compressed air rocket. Test it to see how far it will go.
Aim 2
Our activities are hands-on and lend themselves to children with special educational needs including autism and ADHD. We will have a colouring and craft for children who may need time out of a break from the main activities. A great way to try something new whilst having fun.

Cancellation Policy
Free bookings do not require refunds but as places are limited, please cancel if you cannot attend so that your place can be offered to someone else.

My experience consists of a leisure activity, on a specific date(s), and therefore the 14-day ‘cooling off period’ under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 does not apply.
