A summary
Embark on the ultimate quest of discovery with our Teen geocaching! Unleash your inner explorer and join us for a geocaching experience and hunt treasures using GPS coordinates along the river Thames. Who can join? Any child with a Neurodiversity or on the pathway between the age of 10 years old up to 18 years old. Friday 16th Feb Meeting at Mint Street: 11:00am Collecting at Mint Street: 3:30pm What will happen: 1) We will meet at 11 am inside Mint Street Park at the entrance to the children's play area 2) Once everyone has arrived, we will give you the exact trail and coordinates we will follow and a safety briefing to have fun and good security 3) Time for the fun to start! 5) We will have some Lunch 6) We will then return to Mint Street for 3:30pm and meet your parents in Mint Street. IMPORTANT: Please wear comfortable footwear that does not slip off (trainers or hiking boots), clothes that can get dirty, a waterproof jacket in case of rain, bring your pack lunch with lots of snacks for keeping energy up, water and a back pack. If children are sensitive to wind, please give them layers and bands to protect their ears. Bring with you anything you need to feel comfortable. Ear defenders are welcome if London feels to noisy. Who will be there with the children? We will be 3 adults with SEND training. All adults have DBS and safeguarding training.

Hello, my name is Marine and I am a founder member of The Neurodiversity Family Hub. I am dyslexic and have neurodiverse children. My journey in the realm of neurodiversity began 15 years ago when one of my children, just 2 years old at the time, exhibited distinctive traits that set them apart from neurotypical individuals. Through a relentless seven-year battle within the educational and medical systems, my child received a comprehensive diagnosis, encompassing Autism, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia, Dyslexia, and a severe language disorder. Fuelled by my experience, I embarked on an educational quest, immersing myself in the intricate worlds of Autism and Neurodiversity. My initial educational background includes a Master's Degree in Direct Marketing, and I worked in that field for years until I transitioned to the charity sector. My journey within the field of neurodiversity inspired me to expand my skill set by becoming a certified Transformational Life Coach, specializing in the Person-Centered (Rogerian) approach to accompany Parents of Neurodiverse Children and their children. And I am passionate about making sure Young Neurodiverse people and their families live happy lives in a caring community

Hello, my name is Sonay and I am a founder member of The Neurodiversity Family Hub. I worked in mainstream educational settings for over 15 years, I spent the last 5 years of my teaching career as a qualified SENCO and Assistant principal and have a broad and in-depth knowledge of understanding young people and how to work with various diagnoses and conditions for best outcomes. I am also diagnosed with ADHD and have children with Neurodiversity too. This is my expertise and I commit to ensuring young people are provided with every opportunity and experience we can so they feel included, happy, and driven in their own lives!
Learning aims
Aim 1
Promoting Social Interaction and Team Collaboration. Facilitate communication and collaboration between participants, fostering a sense of teamwork in solving geocaching challenges. Provide opportunities for shared decision-making and problem-solving, promoting social skills and cooperation. Create a supportive environment where SEND kids can engage with peers, building friendships through a common adventure.
Aim 2
Stimulating Cognitive Engagement and Curiosity. Foster a sense of curiosity by presenting geocaching as a treasure hunt, encouraging participants to explore and discover hidden caches. Provide opportunities for cognitive stimulation through puzzle-solving and deciphering clues related to the geocaching locations. Enhance attention to detail and observational skills by engaging participants in the search for well-camouflaged geocaches.
Aim 3
Enhancing Spatial Awareness and Navigation Skills.Develop a better understanding of spatial relationships and distances by actively participating in geocaching activities. Enhance map-reading skills, promoting the ability to follow coordinates and navigate within the outdoor environment. Encourage participants to use diverse senses for spatial orientation, fostering a well-rounded understanding of their surroundings.
