A summary
A fun and relaxed event. We have a theme for each day and there will be 6/7 tables set out with different materials to create an item at each. We give children lots of choice and they are free to choose whichever activities they would like to try. We encourage and demonstrate but we are not prescriptive in any way. If they want do make or do something completely different then that's fine too, we will always help them to achieve whatever they desire. Children's imaginations are boundless and we help them to shine. We do encourage the children to move around and pick their own materials. We also believe in teaching children to be independent, that might be using scissors safely, putting things away properly, spotting hazards, knowing when to put on a protective apron etc. We do a physical activity each day, that might be a trip to the local park, games in our back yard. We also have a yoga teacher who comes in and does fun sessions, including movement & drama. We have a quiet/comfy area where children can relax and play board and card games. We also have a resident children's counsellor.
About your mentor
Sandbach Art Room
Encouraging children to grow creatively
Cheshire Arts for Health (known locally as Sandbach Art Room), is a non-profit making organisation based in Sandbach. We deliver arts and wellbeing sessions and services at our premises in Sandbach and out in the community. We use all forms of the arts to help adults, young people and children to connect with their creative ability, whilst improving confidence, self esteem and connection with others. We offer a HAF programme that allows children to make their own choices with regards to what materials they want to work with, how they want to work, what they would like to produce. We give guidance but are not prescriptive in any way. Their imaginations are far better than anything we could possibly think of! We usually have a theme for the day and a typical session runs as follows; Welcome introductions, explanations of the materials on each table, break for snack & drink (toast, fruit, croissants), continuation/completion of arts session. A choice of going to the park/fun yoga session, self-service lunch – including hot and cold food. The day is wrapped up with fun games and chat.
