What we'll do
Drama Kids Sussex (Formerly Helen O'Grady) is providing a drama and dance club for the HAF programme. This is available to all children in Brighton and Hove who are in receipt of benefit-related free school meals. The week will comprise professional-led masterclasses, drama acts and games, singing, dance, craft and prop making, costumes, props, lights and music! We all come together for a performance on the last day. You must apply for all 3 days. HAF children will receive a free lunch. Self-pay children can purchase lunch. Please message us if you would like this.
About your mentor
Drama Kids Sussex & DK Youth Theatre- Formerly Helen O Grady Sussex
Development through drama
Drama Kids & Dk Youth Theatre (Formerly Helen O Grady Sussex) is much more than a drama school. We’re a friendly, diverse and inclusive family where every student is welcome and encouraged to make huge strides in self-confidence whilst working at their own pace. In our professionally run classes, children of all ages learn how to act, interact and – most importantly – feel good about being themselves, supported by an internationally recognised curriculum. We mainly run after school 1 hour classes and holiday clubs and also adult groups and corporate communication and voice training and CPD on request… well, why should anyone miss out on all the fun? You’ll find us in schools and arts venues across East and West Sussex.
Lunch is provided free and you will be able to provide allergy and dietary information during the checkout process. We will be providing a picnic style lunch such as sandwiches, pasta, fruit, snacks etc.
Learning aims
Aim 1
Movement Physical expression, miming to music, and a bit of dance –though no dancing shoes are required. As well as improving their coordination, students learn to feel good in their own bodies, improve their posture and hold their own in a social and creative space.
Aim 3
Speech Our strong focus on verbal dynamics and English language helps students to develop a clear, compelling voice and good listening skills. Immensely useful stuff, whether they’re expressing themselves on a public or theatrical stage.
Aim 2
Drama We stimulate creativity through structured improvisation, dialogue, characterisation, snippets, scene starters, and acting out original scripts as an ensemble. This practice goes beyond stage skills, helping kids to socialise and overcome shyness in groups.
Aim 4
One of the greatest life skills we can teach our kids is to communicate confidently. This is why drama is such a valuable tool in preparing them to be all they can be in the world.

Cancellation Policy
Free bookings do not require refunds but as places are limited, please cancel if you cannot attend so that your place can be offered to someone else.

My experience consists of a leisure activity, on a specific date(s), and therefore the 14-day ‘cooling off period’ under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 does not apply.
