A summary
Brighton & Hove City Council are coordinating a festive family fun day for those who have a child in Reception to Year 11 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), who also receives benefits-related free school meals. At least one child must be receiving benefits-related free school meals, and must be accompanied by an adult. Siblings are also welcomed. Each adult and each child who will be attending must book a ticket. The Council’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme and Short Breaks teams are working with partners to offer this free day of festivity, activity, and inclusivity. Thanks goes to Freedom Leisure who are providing the setting, to help facilitate the day. Families will be supported to engage their children and young people in everything from the bouncy castle and soft play, to arts and crafts, a festive treasure hunt, as well as a variety of sporting activities, and of course an opportunity to see Santa to pick up their Activity & Food Hamper. Thanks to the following local providers there will be lots of activity on offer, including: - Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation - blind and amputee penalty shoot out challenge - Defiant Sports - boccia and new age kurling - Parable Dance - dance sessions - WBC Adaptive Boxing - boxing activity sessions Everyone is also invited to take part in a healthy snack taste test, as well as join us for lunch, with food provided for the whole family.
About your mentor
Brighton and Hove HAF team
We run HAF
In collaboration with the Council's Short Breaks team, we are facilitating a SEND family day for those who have a child receiving benefits-related free school meals.
Suitable for
With family supervision, we hope to be able to support all categories of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). HAF is for school aged children and young people in Reception to Year 11 (aged 4 to 16), who receive benefits-related free school meals. The age and benefits related eligibility criteria relates to funding guidance set by the Department for Education who fund the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme. Much of the activity will be free flow, however once bookings and interest are taken we will make the decision whether to restrict certain sessions by age or categories of SEND. An accompanying adult is expected to supervise their children at all times and siblings are welcome to join in. Other than Freedom Leisure members using the gym, HAF has sole use of Moulsecoomb Leisure Centre. As such we are able to offer quieter areas and changing rooms. Please note anything we can do to help make your child feel welcome and supported at the time of booking. Email HAF@brighton-hove.gov.uk using the subject line 'Winter HAF SEND' if you have any specific questions or requests for the day.
Learning aims
Aim 1
To help children and young people with SEND to be active and have fun with friends over the holidays
Aim 2
To bring families together who have children with additional needs
Help planning
Please ensure you provide all relevant information at booking to help us best plan to meet the needs of your family. The parking restrictions at Moulsecoomb Leisure Centre will be lifted for the day, so you can park for free. Please come dressed comfortably, appropriate for some physical activity. We recommend bringing water bottles to help keep the family hydrated. No fizzy drinks please. There is a lift, disabled toilets and changing rooms available. Healthy snacks (fruit and salad based) and lunch for the family will be provided. However, we appreciate that meal times can be challenging for some families. We encourage everyone to try the food provided, but will understand if you also bring your own food.

Cancellation Policy
None of the aboveFree bookings do not require refunds but as places are limited, please cancel as soon as possible if you cannot attend so that your place can be offered to support another family. Bookings and cancellations can be managed under your 'Schedule.'

My experience consists of a leisure activity, on a specific date(s), and therefore the 14-day ‘cooling off period’ under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 does not apply.
