A SUMMARY

Join me to develop your skills on this beautiful magical and versatile instrument. Learn how to play works from Bach to Stravinsky... We'll have fun learning a huge variety of techniques from the very first basics to vibrato, staccato, double-stops, trills, harmonics - each of which has its own unique demands. Undoubtably, learning an instrument can be challenging at times, but through regular, expert tuition at my home in Forest Row, I will nurture your love and enthusiasm every step of the way.

Anna Szabó
I began playing the violin when I was five years old studying first with Elizabeth Turnbull and later Nick Roth and have made my career as a professional violinist. I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music under Professors Lydia Mordkovitch and Yossi Zivoni from 1985 - 1990 gaining a PPRNCM (Professional Performance) with distinction. I have had the huge pleasure of working with many great musicians such as Leonard Bernstein, Luciano Pavarotti, Shirley Bassey, Nigel Kennedy, Nikky Benedetti, Guy Barker, Kurt Elling, Gregory Porter, Vanessa Haynes, Georgie Fame, Liane Carroll, Natalie Williams, Ian Shaw, Imelda May, Candace Springs, Tony Momrelle, Tim Minchin, Beverley Knight, Curtis Stigers, Jacob Collier, Polly Gibbons, ChristineTobin, Joe Stilgoe, Seal, Mica Paris, Alison Moyet, Boy George, Dexys Midnight Runners, Squeeze and Paloma Faith. I recently played with Chrissie Hynde (Pretenders) and Barry Manilow for BBC Proms in the Park. I have also recorded for films and the BBC working on projects such as King Lear (Anthony Hopkins), Blue Planet 2, There be dragons, The Fold (dir. John Jencks), The Hunt, The Dresser, The Politicians Husband, Life of Lucian Freud, Just William, The Highway Rat, Stickman, Fungus the Bogeyman, ZOG. I have also worked for West End musicals joining shows such as Les Miserables, and had my own chair on Caroline or Change. I have done many other shows in different locations, like Miss Saigon, Phantom, Light in the Piazza. I have been privileged to have been a part of the London Jazz Festival for over ten years, playing the arrangements of Guy Barker under his baton; I've toured with Paloma Faith, played many times at all the major concert venues in the country, led "Hollywood Strings" for Claire Teal and recorded for Paloma Faith, Radiohead, Craig David and One Direction to name a few. In addition, I have played with many great Orchestras; I started my professional career with a full-time job in the Hallé Orchestra for 7 years, touring South America, Europe, and playing at the Hollywood Bowl for a week! I now regularly play and record live broadcasts on radios 2 and 3 with BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC NOW (National Orchestra of Wales), amongst many recording sessions for TV and films, including recording for Hans Zimmer and Stephen Warbeck I'm very happy to provide advice and support to upcoming musicians with the ambition to make music their career. Sight-reading also increases the neural pathway between left and right brain, as it involves much activity from both sides. You will learn how to balance the bow correctly and how to position you hands and arms for the most optimal sound and best agility on the instrument possible.
