What we'll do
Each session in Summer we will start outside in the garden (weather permitting) and follow the same gentle rhythm. Outside play: please come prepared to enjoy the garden and sandpit each week by bringing waterproofs, waterproof footwear and hat. We aim to play outside every session. Tidy up time: by sharing this task the children learn through imitation to take care of our environment and that everything has its rightful place. Ring time: coming together to share songs, rhymes and joyful movement. Snack time: a simple shared snack of rice cakes and apple spread, apples, bananas and warm herbal tea. Free-play and activity: natural, handmade and simple toys invite the children to explore and play. By sitting down and talking quietly or engaging in a simple craft activity, we can encourage a calm and peaceful mood. Story Pockets: Gathering in a story circle the children are invited to choose a pocket and see which puppets are waiting inside. Goodbye: saying goodbye together and leaving together helps ease the children through this final transition of our morning with a gentle song.
About your mentor
Katherine Small
Mother, artist and early years advocate
Attending Parent and Child groups with my own children showed me how vital these spaces can be in fostering friendships and a sense of community. My approach inspired by Waldorf and Pikler pedagogy is non-judgmental, supportive and gentle. This is a place in your week where I will hold space for you to deeply connect with your child whilst they explore and experience a holistic environment especially created for them, in the warmth of a circle of families and carers.   Drawing on my background in crafts and fine art brings a creative approach to my work,  I believe that simple achievable creative activities are vital for parents to reconnect and recharge their own energies.  Little children learn through imitation and love to engage in meaningful activity which could include baking, painting or making.  I am a graduate of the Holistic Baby and Childcare EYE Level 3 Dip training course and have run parent and child groups in Forest Row for several years now.  My interests include nurturing creativity, growing and gardening, seasonal living, nature connection and crafting.  I have several years of experience and a wealth of creative knowledge to share and inspire you with and I'm looking forward to welcoming you and your little one!
