A summary
Thornham Walks stretch over 12 miles and are open to the public almost every day of the year. The Walks are part of the Thornham Estate and they are managed by the Henniker-Major family, who are committed to continuing the vision of the 8th Lord Henniker. There is both a longer and a shorter walk option for this walk and for both we will meet in the car park outside the Forge Cafe. We will then do a warm-up before setting off for our walk around the footpaths and quiet lanes of the beautiful Thornham Estate. The pathways may be muddy so please come prepared. After our cool down there will be the opportunity to have refreshments in the Forge Cafe. Please note that the car park at Thornham Walks costs £2.50.

Charlotte has over 20 years’ experience of working with children, schools and families as a primary school teacher, headteacher, educational consultant, Forest School leader and trainer. She is a qualified Level 3 Forest School practitioner with over 10 years' experience of leading Forest School sessions with children aged 2-11 years. Charlotte is a Forest School Association (FSA) endorsed trainer and trainer assessor. She provides guidance with setting up and running Forest School as well as practical delivery of sessions and support with bid-writing and site design. Charlotte is a British Nordic Walking instructor and runs regular ‘Learn to Nordic Walk’ programmes at Charlotte’s Wood. She has a diploma in 'Shinrin Yoku' and provides guided Forest Bathing sessions at the woodland.
About Nordic Health Walks
The aim of these monthly Nordic Walks is to get people together, explore different locations within Suffolk and South Norfolk and make new friends whilst practising the Nordic Walking technique. Walks are held on different days, different times and in different places with the hope that everyone will be able to attend at least once in a while. The walks are run for charity, with a £3 donation collected per person per walk. In 2023, donations will be split between the ‘Stroke Association’ and the local charity 'East Anglian Air Ambulance'. Some of the walks are planned and led by Charlotte and others are planned and led by members of the group. As Charlotte is not always able to walk and risk assess the route before the date, anyone coming on a Health Walk needs to be aware that they do so at their own risk! Charlotte leads a warm up and a cool down at the end of each walk and an opportunity is built in for a coffee or lunch before or after the walk. The walks tend to be 3-4 miles in length with a shorter route option for those who want to come but not walk as far. Please note that you need to be familiar with the Nordic Walking technique in order to come on a Nordic Health Walk. Poles may be borrowed if you don’t have your own.
