A summary
Ever wanted to climb all of Snowdonia peaks over 3000 feet high? Now’s you’re chance! This is a VERY tough challenge and a head for heights is needed along with a very good level of fitness. Your fitness is important and you will need to train on hills! Day 1- 10 miles with 1177m of ascent. You will be starting with the toughest of all the peaks, Crib goch, this is a knife edge ridge towards Snowdon itself. Along route you will also cover crib y ddysgl then up to Snowdon itself. Day 1 is a circular walk starting and finishing at Pen Y grwyd. Day 2- 11 miles with 1784m of ascent. You will climb from Nant peris up to Elidir fair, along to Y Garn, Glyder Fawr, Glyder fach ,then up to Tryfan and back down via a lake to Ogwen valley. Day 2 is a point to point hike so lift sharing will be required leaving two cars at either end. Day 3- 12 miles with 1434m of ascent. Day 3 is the longest. You will climb up to Pen y ole wen, then on to Carnedd Dafydd, Carnedd Llewelyn, Yr Ellen, Foel grach, Carnedd Gwenllian and finally Foel fras. . Day 3 is also a point to point hike and cars will have to be left at the end. On day one and two, cars will need to be left at the other end of the hike ready for day three. This will be sorted out the evening before so we can still get an early start both days. This is most important on day 3 as it’s a longer hike. We do the three days in this order as Crib goch needs to be done on day one with fresh legs due to the ridge. You must have a head for heights! Kit needed EVERY DAY- Rucksack 25-30 litres Walking boots or trail shoes with good support and grip Comfortable trousers, t shirt Spare t shirt 2 fleece jumpers, one to wear and one for your rucksack Spare socks Waterproof coat Waterproof trousers Hat and gloves Spare gloves A minimum of 2 litres of fluid (water, squash) Sandwiches, snacks (both sugary and salty) Dried fruit, chocolate etc Blister plasters Painkillers Head torch and spare batteries Camera and phone Every day you will need all this kit, so make sure to pack three of everything! (Except footwear and waterproofs) Accommodation is not included. There are plenty of campsites near to the area. The ideal area is between Bethesda and Capel Curig, there is a YHA and a couple of campsites. Any questions please contact me either via email or WhatsApp hairymountaingoat@gmail.com 07826558668
About your mentor
Jan
Mud, sweat and fun!
My name is Jan Phillips, I am qualified mountain leader, I qualified in 2017 after many years before hiking in North Wales. I used to be a running coach too and had my own running club before the pandemic. I love getting people out in the hills, it is both a great way of keeping fit and blowing away the cobwebs! I grew up on a sheep farm in North Wales and have always loved the great outdoors. My parents were keen hikers too, my first time up Snowdon was at age 8 months in the baby carrier! I also work in the NHS in community dental services specialising in special needs, sedation and urgent care as a dental nurse.
