What we'll do
Take time out of your busy week and replenish yourself with some quality time in nature with your little ones. Come and join me in the beautiful Admiral Wood where you can enjoy a range of nature inspired activities specially designed for parents and toddlers to submerge themselves in nature. Not to mention plenty of opportunity to socialise and enjoy free play in the fresh air. Some of the activities we will do include: - Getting messy in the mud kitchen - Making crafts with natural materials and wildlife themes - Gathering around an open fire - Cooking on the fire - Making camps and dens - Having fun and testing little limbs safely on a natural assault course Each session will be themed around a nature based or well loved story. We will develop the theme with storytelling and singing. Please note that bookings are termly but you can choose a drop in ticket. Please bring suitable outdoor clothes suitable for the weather, preferably waterproof and layers. Please bring water or a drink for your toddlers. We have some cover, but both parents and children will be outside for the whole session. Parking is limited, so please car share where you can!
About your mentor
Out to the Woods CIC
Connect with nature
These sessions will be run by Sunita Thakur I am a qualified primary school teacher (20 years+) and Level 3 Forest School leader (2 years). Having taught in a classroom for over 20 years - it's refreshing to get outside and give children the freedom (within boundaries) to explore and discover nature. I trained with Earthcraft UK during 2020 and have witnessed the restorative effects of forest school on participants. Getting outdoors is important for our physical and mental wellbeing - there is ample evidence to support the benefits of forest school including research by the Forestry Commission, Professor Richardson of the University of Derby and many other academics. "Forest School is an inspirational process that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve, develop confidence and self-esteem, through hands on learning experiences in a local woodland or natural environment with trees.” Once children start attending forest school, they will not want to stop. There is so much to discover and learn and a key element is that it is participant led so if your child shows a keen interest in learning more about mini beasts, trees or birds then I will plan sessions to incorporate their interests. I will also provide opportunities to learn how to use safely cook over a fire and use tools to make crafts out of wood. "Every child in every country is owed the teaching of natural history, to be introduced to the awe and wonder of the natural world, and to appreciate how it contributes to our lives" Professor Dasgupta, 2021
Pricing and Tickets
Bookings are termly (6 weeks) Please note that each attendee (each adult and each child) should purchase a ticket. Every child must come with an accompanying adult. Each session is 2 hours long and therefore each attendee will pay £5 per session. For example, 1 adult with 1 child will each purchase a £5 ticket = £10 in total for the family. There is no cost for babies who are accompanying an older sibling. FOREST SCHOOL HUG - Each term we offer a forest school hug for families who would like to attend but need some support. Please send me a message to discuss further. Please let me know if you plan to bring a baby so that we can discuss access to the woods and whether bringing a pram is suitable or not (this will depend on the time of year and the type of pram you own).
