About your mentor
Cultivating Curiosity
Daniel and Vicky
This three day experience will be held and facilitated by our lovely staff: Ellie and Owen. These two mentors have a wonderful warm way of welcoming the children and helping them feel at home in the woods as well as being especially experienced in bushcraft, fire lighting and tending, foraging and cooking and general woodland crafts. More about Ellie: Growing up in Forest Row, Ellie loved nothing more than being outside - preferably up a tree! Whilst at Michael Hall, as a teenager a Trackways camp sparked a fire in her. This led to a 2 year nature immersion programme at Sacred Earth - a rich period of learning and being, where deep and strongly-woven connections to peers, mentors and a love for the natural world formed and took root. After University and some wandering time as a writer and rock climber, those roots drew Ellie back home. Through working with Vicky, Anna and Ross, she re-found that thread and is now firmly on the path of bringing nature connection to others. She is currently Sheffield-based, doing a Masters in nature-connected Education, focussing on the emotional and mental wellbeing that mentoring in nature can offer. She is also completing her Forest School Leader Training, and works on the Sacred Earth teen programme as well as various 8 Shields group in the North. Ellie is inspired by the colleagues, friends and mentors in the Cultivating Curiosity community, by the work of 8 Shields, and by new and indigenous ways to educate and bring people back into healthy relationship and connection with the Earth. In the woods with children and teens, Ellie is most excited about fire-making and exploring the plant-world through foraging and crafting.
