What we'll do
Yoga for children aged 8-12 (KS2) involves yoga postures (asanas), which are usually taught in themed classes to offer the body movement and the mind a story line. The focus will regularly fall onto counter acting the effects of sitting for increasing periods of time and its effect on the body. This often means a softening of the neck and shoulder area, back and hips. Paying attention to the breath will be introduced and how we can move our bodies dynamically with the out-breath and the in-breath. We will move more dynamically in some postures (flow like practice) and slow down, calm down as a result. Balancing postures will help to sharpen focus and concentration and build core strength and determination. Each class will have at least one yoga pose that explores the child’s balancing skills.
